Mediterraneans want to be liked, Northern Europeans prefer not to be disliked

Do you prefer trying to be liked or avoiding being disliked ?

I definitely go in the South European model.

I need some affection and recognition from the group I belong. However, I don't try not to do things that annoy people unnecessarily.
 
I think we have to divide appereance and interior values. Everybody "like to be liked" in society...Perhaps it's my Italian natural vanity, but being loved is something that makes you proud and I'll say more...Sometimes someone that hates you can give a little satisfaction! =P
Then, it's important to have a really small group of people close to you that really care about you and really love you for who you are. And this is something that doesn't have anything to do with working environment, univeristy, etc.
 
Maslows Heirarchy of Needs, as shown in the attached diagram indicates that one of the basic needs of all humans is having the respect of others, this would also translate to being "liked" over being disliked.
 
The Mediterranean model is more narcissistic. Makes sense.
