Eurovision Song Contest

2012 Remember that Eurovision is a festival of song, not a grotesque euphoria festival or a party of amateurs in a nursing home and decide their vote and if they find a better option than Pastora Soler, vote, although I do not think are.

Congratulations Sweden!

Congratulations, Sweden and Russia first second, as predicted from the first day, the winning song may well have been a film soundtrack in any of 007, of 1979, perhaps? although it is late at least has come in time for Eurovision. Spain will continue to send voices and quality issues thus making an excellent representation and thereby exposing the back room of the European Festival of no-Song.

Pastora Soler was IMO the best and should have won. I remeber thinking that German guy (Roman Lob) should not even bother going on stage after her as he does not have much of a voice or song but then he finished in better place than her.

I am glad that Bosnia gave Pastora 5 points (should have been more) but find it disturbing that 24 countries gave her nothing.

It seems the contest is losing a lot of its kitsch, that was its trademark for so long. In the good old days, a bunch of friends of mine used to meet and give our own marks, all in a wash-out of national drinks (my Belgian roots being very appreciated by my fellows emptying the St Feuillein...). That is about the amount credit you can give to this lame contest... the European Football championship will hopefully be more interesting...

Days prior to the contest Pastora Soler in a radio interview and said he knew he would not win the contest, referring no doubt to the other interests other than the prevailing in Eurovision song. But what is surprising is the amount of poor quality issues that have been in a better position than Pastora Soler and it's something obvious, or better yet, to the ear.

nations with large emigration such as Serbs, Turks, Albanians, Romanians typically go better on voting than others.... next are countries with big minority in neighbouring countries.... not many people from Spain live abroad....

but its not just that... there are good songs that do not pass for average people voting....there is also regional similarity in tastes...

i would mention songs of Slovakia and Switzerland that didnot pass semi-finals but were better than most songs that entered the finals..

Slovakia

Switzerland

btw. why is there limit to single video per post?
at least 2 should be allowed

This also happens in football where teams from countries, including Israel, that are geographically in Asia are allowed to enter the European Champions League.

However, on Eurovision, here's the 'offical' line:

"Eligibility to participate is not determined by geographic inclusion within the continent of Europe, despite the "Euro" in "Eurovision" — nor has it anything to do with the European Union. This explains the inclusion of Israel in the Contest, despite its not being a part of geographical or political Europe. In 1980, Morocco — a North African country — participated in the Contest"

Basically, just because a competition has Euro in the title doesn't mean that only countries actually in the continent of Europe can enter!

Lets hope some more metal monsters like Lordi win again this year!!

at the only Eurovision,
when public votes had more weighth, than comittee of specialists,
was at 2006 Athens,
Europeans decide something that comittee avoid,
Also this desicion was a strike against pornomodel music industry,
After Athens Eurovision 2006 contest, public votes have less weighth than specialists comittee does.

You can not leave the decision in the hands of the public since at least in Spain the worst or most geeks would be voted for making the joke.

And of course it is the only thing that I am going to give Europe the Eurovision votes because after my experience in supposedly European forums and seeing what some Europeans think of others, come on my car is German with 20 years but the next will be Japanese, I'm going to buy everything from the Chinese.

Alexander the Great - Iron Maiden

.... "My son ask for thyself another kingdom
For that which I leave is too small for thee"

Near to the east
In a part of ancient Greece
In an ancient land called Macedonia
Was born a son
To Philip of Macedon

The legend, his name was Alexander

At the age of nineteen
He became the Macedon King
And he swore to free all of Asia Minor

By the Aegean Sea
In 334 B.C
He utterly beat the armies of Persia

Alexander the Great

His name struck fear into hearts of men

Alexander the Great
Became a legend amongst mortal men

King Darius the third
Defeated fled Persia

The Scythians fell by the river Jaxartes

Then Egypt fell
To the Macedon King as well
And he founded the city called Alexandria
By the Tigris river
He met King Darius again
And crushed him again in the battle of Arbela
Entering Babylon
And Susa, treasures he found
Took Persepolis, the capital of Persia
Alexander the Great
His name struck fear into hearts of men
Alexander the Great
Became a God amongst mortal men
A Phrygian King had bound a chariot yoke
And Alexander cut the 'Gordian knot'
And legend said that who untied the knot
He would become the master of Asia
Hellenism he spread far and wide
The Macedonian learned mind
Their culture was a western way of life
He paved the way for Christianity
Marching on, marching on
The battle weary marching side by side
Alexander's army line by line
They wouldn't follow him to India
Tired of the combat, pain and the glory
Alexander the Great
His name struck fear into hearts of men
Alexander the Great
He died of fever in Babylon

Every tiime they come to Greece, they promise to play it live, next time,

Everytime this is just what they sing live, the chorus

but at their last visit they sing for Icaros
