I think we tried a poll on what we thought the best form of government was. I'd like to revive that idea. What should be on the poll? What would the best breakdown of choices look like? Could we adapt a web poll so that we could compare our results with a wider sample?

The best form of government in my view is parliamentary democracy. But when it comes to corruption in the majority of the legislature, it is better to be led by a wise and enlightened dictator than by a hundred corrupt politicians.

The form of government depends a lot on the country, its history, culture or homogeneity. For the EU the best system I see is a highly decentralised form of federalism, with small states which borders would be defined by linguistic-cultural boundaries.

For a homogenous country like Japan, federalism isn't necessary.

Representative democracy is the best choice so far, but I find that in too many cases it turns to be a oligarchy, as eligible politicians are too few and stay for too long. One think I like with having lots of small states in a country is that it increases democarcy, as more politicians are elected per inhabitant (it is also more costly for the taxpayers...) and they are closer to the people.

I think the best form is the direct democracy.
One man one vote.

If it was my choice I choose a government that combines both democracy + communism allowing freedom of speech but also communism against gangsters.

best type of government is a new government that just has a little bit of everything mixed in. Some democracy, some dictatorship, some communism, some authoritarianism, some liberalism, some religious fanaticism, some atheism, some elitism, some "common-man"-ism, some anarchism, some totalitarianism some nationalism, some anti-nationalism, etc.........that way, either everyone is relatively happy or everyone is always at war with each other..... in which case there is never a dull moment. :)

No system of government will work while ever there is corruption. People who are toxic and /or greedy, i.e., inhumane will always look to gain positions of power, whether in government or in the bureaucracy or professional/ commercial positions. The problem is basically of ethics. We are sold some rubbish that human nature is fundamentally corrupt. The slogans of "power corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely". This looks to put everyone in the same category. While we can see many examples of corruption there have been some leader throughout history that had absolute power and were not corrupt.

What is not visible is that we are in a state of war.. globally. This is not about one nation fighting another. This is about evil, corrupt and greedy people trying gain control. There is huge damage but it is being labelled disease and traded for profit. Humanity is made up of two kinds the humane and the inhumane. Once the humane people awaken and realize their spiritual power the inhumane perish because the humane do not need to resort to armaments to fight.

The war is being fought in the mental/non-physical realm and can only be won by the humane because they are the ones that hold power in the mental realm. The inhumane resort to deceptions and intimidation to gain power. And their greatest weakness is that they have no autonomy. The foul games they play to harm others for power and pleasure all require "like-minded" others. They use others to pose concealed threats in order to play silly deception games and mess with other people's minds. Once the humane person understands the foul game play they can do two things to win against the inhumane. They need to realize the deceptions so the deceptions fails leaving the inhumane without their weapons. And they can use their spiritual power and the power of the mind to annihilate their enemy.. the inhumane.

Once the enemy is defeated there is no need of government. Anarchy is the way. Justice prevails not because of punishments or constraints but because humane people love Justice and thrive with Justice.

There's no such an entity as enlightened dictator. It's utopia. It's just a fairytale.

The best form should be a presidential republic. The USA has the right form of government. President should be elected separately from the deputies of parliament. We should imitate USA. USA it's the best democracy. Despite this, Switzerland it's either a good example. They use the referendum for many laws

Democracy...

Sounds right pleasant, but an attempt to appease all will leave no one happy.

Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…

Winston Churchill, House of Commons, 11 November 1947.

Constitutional Monarchy.

The latest tyrant is chosen by strict criteria combining aristocratic descent, intelligence, and prosocial personality traits, and then his powers held in check by a conniving pack of lawyers constantly citing the constitution, whence his powers derive, against him. Alternatively the autocrat may be a female, ruling under the same system: she is chosen according to her lineage and worthiness to rule, and then limited by a supreme court. This does not mean that the people have no voice in government; indeed elections can easily be held by whimsical rulers, who then at their discretion may sort the ballots into little stacks, or turn the ballots into paper cranes or confetti, or else simply burn them as part of an ongoing dialogue with the people.

National Socialism

"The National Socialist doctrine, as I have always proclaimed, is not for export. It was conceived for the German people." --Hitler, a well-known National Socialist with a
prominent moustache

democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…
Did Churchill say this before, or after, his weekly bender?

According to Herodotus, the Persians required any government decision made while sober to be confirmed while drunk, and any made while drunk to be confirmed while sober. I think this is a sound policy.

I want to be free. I believe in democracy in government, but also in economics. So I believe if I want to open a shop, start a company, or build a corporation I should be free to do so, just as I'm free to vote for whom I please and, at least in the USA, free to say what I want. I don't believe communism is compatible with democracy. The dictatorship of the proletariat is still a dictatorship.
