The world-famous little blue creatures with their white hat were invented in 1958 by Belgian cartoonist Peyo.

Many events are taking places in Europe for the occasion.

Today, the world's largest Smurf village was staged in Croatia, with thousands of participants disguised in Smurfs.

And for the fans, here is the official website in 6 languages.

When I was young I always watched the smurfs. I even woke up early for that.

I love Smurfette, and Jokey Smurf.

Well Dutch I was and am a lot older than you, but I watched them too. Together with my children.
Also the music was really good.

I didn't know that they came from Belgium Maciamo, always thought that they came from Germany. See, one is never too old to learn!

Wow, I didn't know The Smurfs were that old, I watched them when I was real young.
There weren't that many female smurfs, as a kid I had issues with that. :bluush:

Yes, there was only one Smurfette and she was infertile. That's why they are extinct now. :p
