Post Searching for famous R1b-L21 individuals

This thread is dedicated to proposing new famous members of haplogroup R1b-L21 (M529) and its subclades.

So far, confirmed R1b-L21 carriers include:

    - The House of Stuart (DF13 > DF41 > L744 > S781)

    - James Buchanan (L1335 > CTS11722 according to the Buchanan DNA Project)

    - William Ewart Gladstone (see here)

Here are a few prospective carriers that should be further investigated.

    - John Fitzgerald Kennedy and family : the Kennedy DNA Project has mostly L21 members, including one Patrick Kennedy b. 1785 in Ireland, which could be his ancestor and who is M222.

Given JFK ancestor was from South-East I'd think M222 is unlikely. Generally irish Kennedy family (as oppose to Scottish Kennedy) is regarded as Dál gCais (L226+) though from testing we also see that they can "Irish Type IV" and there's even some who are L21-/DF27+

US president Warren G. Harding (1865-1923) belonged to R1b L21>DF13>Z39589>DF49>DF23>ZP75 according to the Harden/Harding Surname Project (group I). He descended from Richard Harding (1583-1657) from Denbury, Devon, England and his son Stephen (1623-1698) who migrated to Braintree, Massachussets and died in Rhode Island.

Tom Cruise's oldest known patrilineal ancestor is Thomas O'Mara (1834-1894) from Kentucky. Cruise is his wife's surname. There are a few O'Mara on FTDNA and all are R1b-L21 - like 90% of Irish men. So the actor probably belongs that that haplogroup too (like most actors of Irish paternal descent).

The American financier and banker J.-P .Morgan (1837-1913) descended from Sargent Miles Morgan who migrated from Wales to Massachusetts. This places him in Group 23 in the Morgan Surname Y-DNA Project, corresponding to haplogroup R1b-L21>DF13>Z39589>FGC43861>BY2868>BY132302.

Actor Matt LeBlanc, well known for playing the character of Joey Tribbiani in the TV series Friends, has a genealogy that can be traced back to Daniel Leblanc (1626-1695) who migrated from France to Port-Royal in Acadia (modern Nova Scotia). The same individual is listed in the Normandy Y-DNA Project as a member of R1b-L21>DF63>BY592. Geni.com mentions his haplogroup as R1b-M269.

I have many ancestors from Port-Royal; my great-great-grandfather (who, interestingly enough, was also R1b-L21, based on the Acadian yDNA project) Arthur Robishaw (original spelling Robichaud), although from the Digby area, earlier generations of his family lived in Port-Royal, which is now known as Annapolis Royal. Given the Acadian endogamy, fictional Joey here is likely real Joey's very distant cousin.

Patrice de MacMahon (1808-1893), 6th Marquess of MacMahon, 1st Duke of Magenta, was a French politician and Marshal of France, who served as Chief of State of France from 1873 to 1875 and as the 3rd President of France, from 1875 to 1879. He descended from the MacMahon of County Limerick, Ireland, who are all R1b-L21>DF13 in the McMahon Y-DNA Project.

Jack Dorsey, the co-founder and CEO of Twitter, descends from the Dorseys of Ireland. According to the Dorsey Surname Project almost all of them belong to R1b-L21. The two main lineages both fall under the M222 branch (both DF109 deep clade).

    Two more L21 members:

American statesman and lawyer and Founding Father Roger Sherman (1721-1793) probably belonged to R1b-L21 > DF13 > FGC5494 based on the results from the Sherman DNA Project. He is the only person to have signed all four great state papers of the United States: the Continental Association, the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution.

Union general William Tecumseh Sherman (1820-1891), who played a key role during the American Civil War, shared a common ancestor with Roger Sherman in the person of Henry Sherman (1511-1590) from Dedham, Essex. So both men would share the same paternal haplogroup. The M4 Sherman, the most widely used medium tank by the Allies in World War II, was named after General Sherman.

    The Confederate States Army general J. E. B. Stuart (1833-1864) descends from the Baronet of Castle Stuart and therefore belonged to the same lineage as the Royal House of Stuart (R1b-L21 > DF13 > Z39589 > DF41/S524 > Z43690 > S775 > L746 > S781).

George B. McClellan (1826-1885) was an American soldier, civil engineer, railroad executive, and politician who served as the 24th Governor of New Jersey. As major general during the American Civil War he played an important role in raising a well-trained and organized army. He was Commanding General of the Union Army for 5 months. His paternal lineage was identified through the McClellan Y-DNA Project as a descendant of Brig. General Samuel McClellan, making him a member of haplogroup R1b-L21 > DF13 > Z39589 > DF49 > DF23 > Z2961 > M222.

Henry Clay (1777-1852) was an American attorney and statesman who represented Kentucky in both the Senate and House and served as 9th Secretary of State. He was part of the so-called Great Triumvirate, along with Daniel Webster and John C. Calhoun, who dominated American politics for much of the first half of the 19th century. Clay ran for U.S. president in 1824, 1832, and 1844 and received the electoral votes each time, but nevertheless lost the elections. Many descendants of his great-great-grand-father Charles Clay (d. 1686) from Virginia tested at the Clay DNA Project (lineage 01), which fits into haplogroup R1b-L21 > DF13 > FGC11134 > CTS4466 > A541 > A195 > BY55890.

The 12th president of the United States, Zachary Taylor (1784-1850) belonged to haplogroup R1b-L21 > DF13 > Z39589 > L1335 > L1065 > S764 > BY3148 > FGC18451 based on the results from the Taylor DNA Project (Group 06), and is ultimately descended from Sir John Taylor (1327-1377), a Knight to King Edward III.

Zachary Taylor previously was a career officer in the United States Army, rose to the rank of major general and became a national hero as a result of his victories in the Mexican–American War.

His son, Richard Taylor (1826-1879) was a Lieutenant General in the CSA and became army commander in the Trans-Mississippi Theater.

John Lydon AKA Johnny Rotten of Sex Pistols PiL fame? Both parents from Ireland and FTDNA seems to have have all Lydons as R-L21.

Rutherford B. Hayes (1822-1893), the 19th president of the United States, most probably belonged to haplogroup R1b-L21 > DF13 > L513 > S5668 > Z16357 > Z16854 > ZS349 based on the results from the Hayes DNA Project (Group H, descendant of George Hayes, 1655-1725). Hayes was a lawyer and staunch abolitionist. At the start of the Civil War, he joined the Union Army as an officer. He was wounded five times, earned a reputation for bravery in combat and was promoted to the rank of brevet major general.

William McKinley (1843-1901), the 25th president of the United States, probably belonged to haplogroup R1b-L21 > DF13 > L1335 > S764 based on the results from the MacKinlay DNA Project (descendant of James McKinley b. 1670 in Callender, Perthshire). During his presidency, McKinley led the nation to victory in the Spanish–American War, raised protective tariffs to promote American industry, and kept the nation on the gold standard in a rejection of the expansionary monetary policy of free silver.

Omar Bradley (1893-1981) was a senior officer of the United States Army during and after World War II, holding the rank of General of the Army. Bradley was the first Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and oversaw the U.S. military's policy-making in the Korean War.

After the U.S. entrance into World War II, Bradley oversaw the transformation of the 82nd Infantry Division into the first American airborne division. He received his first front-line command in Operation Torch, serving under General George S. Patton in North Africa. After Patton was reassigned, Bradley commanded II Corps in the Tunisia Campaign and the Allied invasion of Sicily. He commanded the First United States Army during the Invasion of Normandy. After the breakout from Normandy, he took command of the Twelfth United States Army Group, which ultimately comprised forty-three divisions and 1.3 million men, the largest body of American soldiers ever to serve under a single field commander.

    The Bradley DNA Project lists his paternal lineage (group 6) descending from John Bradley (1548-?); Thomas Bradley (1597-1673) and Edward Bradley (1680-1732), all belonging to haplogroup R1b-L21 > DF13 > ZZ10_1 > Z16423 > Z255 > L159 > Z16429 > BY519 > A10318 > Y83065.
