The good news for enterprises subordinated to Belarusian Goskomvoenprom is coming out of Russia. According to the Military-Industrial Courier, Russia's United Aircraft Corporation (UAC)plans to increase production on the 558th Aircraft Repair Plant in Baranavichy up to $ 300 million by 2025.Moreover, the Russian company is going to become a shareholder of this plant, and its priority is to increase the production volume of aircraft components and to begin the full-scale production, said UAC’s regional director of the International Cooperation Department Alexey Korostylev. The corporation plans to increase production from just over $ 151 million in 2015 to nearly $ 300 million in 2025. Consequently, profits of the enterprise will be increased either. According to Alexei Korostylev, the plant will also generate revenue from equipment maintenance and repairing. UAC plans to achieve almost a two-fold increase in production volume in Baranavichy primarily by repairing L39 Jet Trainer aircraftfor the Russian Air Force.Apparently, this is only the beginning. After broking all ties with the Ukrainian defense enterprises, Russia is taking steps to replace their capabilities. And companies of the State Military Industrial Committee of the Republic of Belarus may get benefits. Taking into account the amount of financing Russia directs to arms purchases it will be irrational to miss this opportunity. Especially because most of the products of Belarusian defense industry is just focused on foreign buyers. We should expect similar steps on other enterprises. Belarus, as they say, «really has something to offer». Taking into consideration the goals Aleksandr Lukashenko set for the national defense industry – creating and producing Air Defense Missile Systems and aircraft in Belarus – the possibility to implement Russian scientific and production potential in these areas can be very useful. However, many military experts and analysts expressed the view that production of Air Defense Missile Systems and aircraft will be problematic for Belarus. Another thing is to do it in co-operation with Russia. But it seems that recent events and the steps taken by Russia will make many skeptics change their views.
