For those that don't know Gadjo Dilo is a one of the new wave of Greek musicians that have appeared in Greece the last 10-15 years that are creating Greek or adapting traditional or popular music music into new musical idioms. Gadjo Dilo's style is gypsy jazz/swing ala Django Reinhart. The Apurimac band has worked in the Latin Jazz idiom. I love the new generation of formally educated musicians.

Here's another example by Penny Baltatzi:

The other movement has been some cross pollination between Greek & Turkish popular music. A number of Turkish songstress have performed in Greece and vice versa. Remember that the rembetiko idiom and culture was prevalent in Constantinople (Instabul) and Smyrna (Izmir) particularly among the drug users of that era. While it has grown and thrived in Greece after the exchange of populations in 1922 it has remained rather static in Turkey. The Cafe Aman Instabul band has taken upon itself the task to revive it in Instabul. Formed mostly from musicians from the Turkish Music Conservatory augmented by Greek musicians it released a great first album Fast-i Rembetiko in 2012.

Proud Mary

Creedence, Tina Turner, among others, have already performed the song Proud Mary. But the King's performance is always special. :cool-v:(y):)

The Queen:

She's 61 here and performing in 5 inch heels. A whole lifetime of trouble too. Maybe she has a portrait hidden away somewhere which is aging for her, a la " The Portrait of Dorian Grey". :)

Tina is the queen. This is indisputable. As a young man I watched the movie Mad Max and the thunder dome just because her. At that time Mel Gibson was just another pretty face actor to me. The queen's legs ... Wow. In the film she played a bad queen. I don’t rebemember much of Mel, but I remember each moment of Tina in the movie.

Indeed. Don't mess with the Queen on her own turf. :)

Seriously, if I were a lesbian and unattached I'd pick her above any of those slack skinned young women, and not just because of her talent. Tina shows that mature and strong physically and mentally can be very sexy.

I still don't understand how I didn't "get" Elvis until decades after I was a teenager. Music before the Beatles didn't really exist. How dumb.

Yes I agree. Tina is very sexy. She is ravishing. She owns the stage and everyone follows her. She sets the tone of the Show. She is an authentic queen. The Queen of Rock. There was a lot of music before the Beatles. The Beatles were fans of Elvis and of American rock. The Beatles created a new musical style, without losing its references and influences. I love Elvis, Beatles and Tina. I like Heavy Metal and Hard Rock but, like my son, above musical genres, I like good music.
