What music are you listening to?

So beautiful...Bonnie Raitt and Nora Jones..."The Tennessee Waltz.

Bonnie Raitt-Love Has No Pride
"If you want me to beg, I'll fall down on my knees." The performance of this song is almost too gut wrenching. I love, love, love her.

Pink: Me and Bobby McGee. Closest to Janis Joplin I've ever heard. I guess I should have been listening to more Pink over the years.

Sad song. Bruce Springsteen has a couple of songs with the same nostalgia, regret, recalling the same era. Of course, they were created when American music was still about actual music and lyrics which mean something. Bill Joel is "THE MAN". Like Springsteen, a really nice guy who never forgot where he came from.

This movie has the same vibe. Even Nicholas Cage off leash couldn't ruin it.

Peggy Sue Got Married: This terrible trailer doesn't do it justice. It's a really good movie.

I wonder if Italians have more songs dedicated to their mothers than any other country and why? :)

There's the most famous one, of course, but there are many others I like, like Lacreme Napuletane. It has something to do with having so many migrants, but that's not all of it.

My dear mother,
Christmas is coming
and being away
makes me sad
how much would I love lighting
a couple of firecrackers
how much would I love hearing a piper
Make the cot for my baby daughter
and lay a plate for me on the table
do this on Chrirmas Eve
as if I were with you
me too
How many tears does it cost us this America
to us neapolitans
for us who weep
for the sky of Naples
bitterly as this bread
My dear mother what is
what is money good for?
For those weeping for homeland
it is nothing
I have many dollars and I feel
completely impoverished, more than ever
I’m dreaming every night of my home
and my daughter and I sense her voice
I also dream of you like (Virgin) Mary
with blades in her chest
before Her crucified Son
How many tears does it cost us this America
to us neapolitans
for us who weep
for the sky of Naples
bitterly as this bread
You’ve written to me
that lil'Assunta complains
about the one who left
and is still away
What can I say
If the daughter wants mommy
let her return to this madam
Me I won’t return, I’ll stay abroad
and continue working for everyone
Me who has lost home, homeland and honour
I’m just cannon fodder, I’m an immigrant
How many tears does it cost us this America
to us neapolitans
for us who weep
for the sky of Naples
bitterly as this bread:

In Dialect:
Lu Ciucciu mutu, la Mamma lu capisce.

(The mute Donkey is understood by the Mother.)

Meaning:
She knows you better than you know yourself.
There’s a strong reciprocal special connection between an Italian mother and her children, it will never change, is unconditional and age is not a factor. At 5 or 55 the bond and the trust is unchanged.
I don’t know why, it just is. :)
