"The Tyrolean Iceman is an extraordinarily well-preserved natural mummy that lived south of the Alpine ridge ~5,200 years before present (ybp), during the Copper Age. Despite studies that have investigated his genetic profile, the relation of the Iceman´s maternal lineage with present-day mitochondrial variation remains elusive. Studies of the Iceman have shown that his mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) belongs to a novel lineage of haplogroup K1 (K1f) not found in extant populations. We analyzed the complete mtDNA sequences of 42 haplogroup K bearing individuals from populations of the Eastern Italian Alps – putatively in genetic continuity with the Tyrolean Iceman—and compared his mitogenome with a large dataset of worldwide K1 sequences. Our results allow a re-definition of the K1 phylogeny, and indicate that the K1f haplogroup is absent or rare in present-day populations. We suggest that mtDNA Iceman´s lineage could have disappeared during demographic events starting in Europe from ~5,000 ybp. Based on the comparison of our results with published data, we propose a scenario that could explain the apparent contrast between the phylogeographic features of maternal and paternal lineages of the Tyrolean Iceman within the context of the demographic dynamics happening in Europe from 8,000 ybp."


At the rate Zink and company are releasing Oetzi material it'll be fifty years we get all the info.

I don't see anything new here. I also don't see how they can say Oetzi's mtDna is extinct. Think how many millions of people in Europe haven't been tested.

I'm more interested in the experiments being conducted by Kurd which show that Oetzi and Kumtepe 6 form a clade to the exclusion of the other Neolithic farmers.

I don't know whether you have daughters Angela.
But even if you have several, chances that your specific line will still exist within 5200 years are a tiny fraction of 1 %.
It's a simple matter of statistics.
People don't realise how abundant life is, also human life. The holding capacity of planet earth is limited tough.

For Y-DNA there is YFull TMRCA estimates and also some in Ray Banks experimental tree :

Does anybody know a good source for TMRCA estimates of the mtDNA tree?
 
the study says the Y-DNA of Ötzi, G2a-L91 and more specific the subclade FGC5672

TMRCA estimated is 5.1 ka and it has descendants in Punjab, Pakistan (PJL)

gives L91 next to L32..............L32 downstream marker of L497 represents 88% of G2 where oetzi was found. Since the paper also says L497 originates from central europe ( austria), then what is the age of L497 when you compare it to its parent L32 and compared to L91?

there are many new branches to the pedigree since 2013
G-M3308 is now hte common ancestor of both L497 and L91 http://www.yfull.com/tree/G-M3308/

TMRCA estimates ..
G-M3308 16.8 ka
L497 7.1 ka http://www.yfull.com/tree/G-L497/
L91 9.3 ka

so L497 may have expanded in Europe while M3308 and L91 probably expanded in SW Asia, prior to emigration to Europe
