Is the US on the way to a gerontocracy?

There must be younger, fitter and more clever people running for president than Biden or Trump? Or not....?

Yeah, I don't get it. In 2016 the Republicans had a big field in the primaries, but we ended up with Trump. In 2020 the same for the Democrats and we ended up with Biden.

Maybe smoke-filled rooms were actually a better way of picking candidates.

yeah and sometimes the reality is from the sunny side up, take the Nixon-Kennedy controversy, Nixon looked grey, old ill, Kennedy looked young, browned, fresh, energetic....but in reality:

Sadly the top Dem is going senile,
his Party pretends he’s fine,

they're trying to raise the status of his VP,

if they succeed they'll oust him as soon as they get a chance.

... mark my words!

If the Dems fail at trumping Harris status over Biden, Trump will win in a landslide :)

The question is:

Will Biden’s ego allow Harris to outshine him?

... in Joe’s mind he is the Primadonna, not Kamala, ... ...

Imo, the activists, the organizers, in the Democratic party are way to the left of Biden. All the younger people running for the presidency on the Democratic ticket listed left to get their support. Biden couldn't list to far to the left because of his long record, and maybe, to give him credit, he didn't want to...So, all the moderate Democrats, and the black Democrats who remembered his civil rights record who bothered to vote in the primaries voted for him. The "progressive" vote got split up too many ways.

Problem is, as I said, that I truly think he's fragile physically and mentally. His presidency will be controlled by other people. The black leadership supposedly said take Kamala Harris as VP or we don't support you. There's a hair's breath difference between her and AOC.

I don't want to live in a country where people like AOC and Harris control the executive branch, but it looks like it might be headed that way.

The tragic thing is that if the current president had Trump's economic and even foreign policies and concern for the working class (minus some of the stupid things he's done with the Covid crisis) but wasn't a loud mouthed egomaniac who spills out the first id driven stupid thought that comes to his mind, this would be a no brainer and Biden would lose.

I could smack him up the side of his head as they say around here. What a jerk. He's wasted so many chances.

And where are the ads on Biden and Harris? Has he already figured out he's blown it by his own inability to shut his fool mouth and doesn't want to spend any of his own money on the campaign?

What a joke.

Not that we're alone in this.

Look at the Brexit mess in England and that idiot Corbyn (who I think was a raging anti-Semite fwiw on top of a total incompetent) and Boris, the equal idiot who's got the job because even Labour strongholds for fifty years wouldn't vote Labour, or France with that nincompoop whose approval ratings couldn't go lower, or Italy with that cretinous party put together by a comedian and a regional one trying to run from its Nordicist past, or Belgium, which can't be efficient because it holds on to stupid ethnic divisions in their tiny country (bad as the Catholics and the Protestants of Northern Ireland whom you can't even tell apart), and the fascist in Hungary, and quasi fascism in Poland, and an ex KGB officer as head of Russia, Tsar for life. Not to mention the evil Chinese Communist party that wrecked the world.

How many have I missed?

So, I think it would be unwise for anyone to throw stones. We're seeing the rise of mediocrity and incompetence in everything absolutely everywhere.

@Jovialis,

Can't let thinking machines take too much power; danger lies ahead if you do that. We'd wind up having to have our own Butlerian Jihad to destroy them all. :) (Obviously, I'm a great fan of science fiction, and especially Frank Herbert.)

It's human beings we have to fix, but danger lies along that path too, because we can't let government control genetic engineering; instead of a war against robots and computers we'd have Brave New World.

I vote for Jimmy Carter

I vote for Jimmy Carter

Man you are making me feel well "older". I remember that famous "My Name is Jimmy Carter and I am running for President" I watched this live with my Grandfather and Grandmother (Fathers parents) as a 10 year old. So my Grandfather was one of the old Ethnic Catholic Democrat voters back in the day (Truman/JFK) which is probably a party that I could be comfortable with today. Truman was always one of my favorite Presidents in US history. However, the modern Democrats are not Truman and JFK. I wonder if my Grandfather was alive today he could vote for the crap that the modern Dems in 2020 push. I sure as hell can't.

I vote for Jimmy Carter

Well, I'm old enough that I voted for Carter, and I beg your forgiveness! After all, his favorite band was the Allman Brothers . . . what more could a 20-something ask for?

Like many, I cringe every time Trump speaks or tweets, but, overall, I like the policies I've seen enacted. I'll probably vote for him because I mistrust Biden and the various positions he's taken over the years . . . plus, like many, I think a vote for him is a vote for the Democratic left-wing (socialist, antifa, etc) and Kamala as eventual President.

Lastly, the good thing about democracy is that you get what you asked for, and in many cases, you get it good and hard.

It's no secret who I'm voting for

and you can thank me (and others) anytime you like for Trump 2016 win, ... you’re welcome!

Before the pandemic America has never been so powerful and rich, (Thank you President Trump, Salento and You), and now we are roaring back big.

I couldn’t care less of blabber and character flaws, I ain’t voting for Pope.

... the new Dems are now Anti everything European (racist) ... and by the way, the Dems agenda is a Socialist Agenda.

... no brainer, I also like to keep my money, ...

... and now, be nice to me, if we disagree about politics, we’re not enemies :)

Trump didn't really do anything to make America rich and powerful though. The best thing he did was a few tax cuts and generally stay out of the economy. of course crazy Democrats will interfere with the economy, try to steal wealth from whites to give to blacks and hispanics, politicize the Federal Reserve, spend without any restrain. So Trump is 1000x better than even the best Democrat. He didn't really stop illegal immigration unfortunately which is my biggest gripe.

Well he has been great on Court picks, Justices that read the Constitution and understand this is a Constitutional Republic. Too many things have been shoved down the throats by Liberal Courts that never got a vote on. He has also been the first president going back to Bush 1, who started the China love fest, which has went unabated through Clinton, Bush 2 and Obama, to push back against China. Russia, Russia, Russia, my rear end, the biggest geopolitical threat to the USA is China, They used Free trade deals to turn their economy into the 2nd largest in the world, yet certain industries in China, which are deemed by the State to be critical, and have State Ownership interest, can't be competed against. To get around that, US companies open subsidiaries in China, tightly regulated by the Chinese Government and they must share technology with China. And what isn't shares they steal. They manipulate their currency to keep exchange rates such that they will win in trade, etc.

On those 2 issues alone I will vote against the DEMS, and thus Trump.

I don't know whether I agree with you or not.:)

Imo, Jimmy Carter was the perfect example of a man with a high IQ (worked as a nuclear engineer for a while for a Lab with which I'm familiar) who is not fitted for the presidency because he has no sense of the realities of politics, and especially not foreign affairs and power politics.

A very good man from all I've read, but an incompetent president, imo.

Can't disagree with you there. Although KAvanagh and Gorsuch have been disappointing to some degree given they have voted against the other conservatives. But still better than fake conservative Roberts.

The biggest reason to vote for Trump is to have my dream of Amy Coney Barett be a justice. The left will will freak out if she replaces RGB and I would enjoy every minute of it.

What do you think Trump's chance is?

Huge spike in homicides across U.S. cities.

A Biden/Harris win will only make it worse. The sad part is that minorities suffer the most harm immediately, from the violence, and more in the long term as more and more middle and upper class whites move out to the suburbs taking their tax dollars with them, the tax dollars which support the infrastructure and education and transportation as well as police.

Trust me, I've seen it with my own eyes. When I went out to look at houses there were ten or more people putting in offers for each house, most of them from the city.

You have to look for the unforeseen consequences when you enforce public policy. Use some common sense when thinking things through. Did they think middle class and upper class people paying all the taxes wouldn't react? Cuomo is begging them to come back, he'll buy them a drink. Please, that's silly. He's a smart guy; he has to realize that caving in to the "anti-fa", alt-left will destroy the cities and a lot more besides. Maybe he's been a leftist so long that it blinds him to what these younger Democrats really stand for. My parents voted for Democrats until Carter. From everything I've read, I could have voted for Kennedy, or someone like Jack Kemp. The party has moved far away from people like that. It's they who abandoned the working class in this country, not the other way around.

Stupid, stupid, thinking by politicians just pandering to the mob.

The Democrat party "elders" think limiting AOC to one minute at the convention will fix it? There's enough tape from Kamala Harris standing with AOC, or tapes of things Harris has said that could be run side by side with the exact comments made by AOC for fifty commercials.

For God's sake, who the hell is running their ad campaign? Those ad men and women should be working around the clock to get the ads out.

Carter was smart and good man (nuclear physics and habitats for humanity), but those aren't the qualities that make a good leader. A leader doesn't have to be the smartest guy/gal in the room (just smart enough to pick and listen to good advisors) and being practical is far more important than being "good." Carter was, IMO, skinned alive in the political/diplomatic world by a lot of people who were neither as smart or as good as he. America suffered for it.

Completely agree with every word.

I find it interesting that even in the future projections, blacks will consistently share almost the same portion of the population in the U.S.; about 13%

Hispanics and Asians (East Asians & Indians) will experience an increase.

Judge Barett would be a great choice. I think it is 50/50 just like 2016. I don't believe in the polls because I think there is too much sampling bias in them, most mainstream media polls always over sample Dems. I think is 2016 all over again and turnout in battle ground states will win.

Looking at the current democrats its hard to believe there was a point in their history where they actually cared about workers. Where they actually understood illegal immigration depresses wages. Seems like so long ago.

This sounds bad but I find it tough to have empathy for minorities especially when large numbers of them blame all their problems on Republicans and whites. Democrats have run the big cities for 50+ years. Every minority I know is a big Trump is racist hater and thinks all Republicans and whites are evil.
