Here are two old ones from Ricky Martin. Don't go hating on me, people, I like him. :)

Living La Vida Loca (Living the Crazy Life)

I just noticed only part of it's in Spanish. Oh well.

Maria:

Ed. the translation of "Maria"

One, two, three,
One small step forward with Maria.
One, two, three,
One small step back.

She is a spcial woman,
Like she fell from another planet.
She is a carnal labrynth
That traps you, and you find no way out

So is Maria:
White like the day,
But she's venom
That you're enamored with

So is Maria:
As hot as she is cold
If you drink her in,
It will surely kill you.

One, two, three,
One small step forward with Maria.
One, two, three,
One small step back.
Although it will kill me now, Maria,
Maria, I have to kiss you

She is, like a mortal sin,
That condemns you little by little
She is a sexual mirage
That drives you crazy, crazy.

So is Maria:
White like the day,
But she's venom
That you're enamored with

So is Maria:
As hot as she is cold
If you drink her in,
It will surely kill you.

One, two, three,
One small step forward with Maria.
One, two, three,
One small step back.
Although it will kill me now, Maria,
Maria, give it to me.

Love this song. I think I heard it in English too although this version is brilliant. Is Farill the original composer of it?

Me three. Love it.

The English language version is the dance music for this scene from the Australian film "Strictly Ballroom". I love the movie too...my daughter and I have watched it I don't know how many times. The whole film is available for free on youtube. It's about the wacky world of professional ballroom dancing, but probably more about the difference between integrity and selling out. It's a little out there (Baz Luhrman), but it's just great.

Oki dokie...got it now :)
the Spanish version is the original written by Cuban Osvaldo Farres :). you just live and learn. I love the Spanish version.

Bocelli does an excellent job with "Besame Mucho" as well, in fact I don't know if anyone has ever done as good a job with it. He puts so much passion and tenderness into it. I love this song, and it may be one of the best dance songs ever written. I recommend it. :)

Spanish language music out of Europe is very rich, taking in account diversity of music and the vast spaces of the south of USA and whole Mexico to Argentina.

Popular Venezuelan singer L. Silva: Las Horas Mas Lindas

Thanks for this thread Angela :)
A Colombian musician

My first introduction to Cuban music was through the "vanilla" version of Desi Arnaz, aka as Ricky Ricardo in reruns of "I Love Lucy". Here he does a great version of Babalu:

I think part of the reason that Cuban music became so popular in the U.S. is that so many Americans went to the casinos in Havana and heard it there. People from other parts of the world as well.

Decades later we still love the Conga:

Salsa...first Celia Cruz "Life is a Carnival", and then the most elegant Cuban salsa dance I've ever seen.

Just beautiful...a Cuban salsa dance...Son Cubano...he's a genius...really starts getting into it at about 2:00...showing off more. :) She's very good as well, and no need to perform half naked the way the "professional" ball room dancers in America and Europe do.

Jennifer Lopez' tribute to Celia Cruz: of course, she did get half naked, and tarted up the performance in other ways. Call me old fashioned, but it's so unnecessary, not to mention vulgar; is the only way to get attention for this great music in today's world to do this. and to throw in some acrobatics and tosses into the air? The salsa doesn't need it. It's great on its own.

Below: the Jennifer Lopez tribute to Celia Cruz, her better, although still vulgar, imo, performance of Let's Get Loud, and another, more authentic version of the Cuban salsa by Chayanne. The last song is a modern Puerto Rican/New York salsa song: Flor Palida by Marc Anthony.

"María Magdalena" del grupo español "Trigo limpio" .Mary Magdalene Spanish group Clean Wheat. I love it.

Yesterday my mouth froze in your mouth and you knew not kiss, my love tell me why I can not love.

Ay amor, Victor Manuel, another of my favorite songs. Oh love that awakens the stones, and from that you do not sit around, oh love you open the doors to and love as necessary as the sun when I call when you say go, e.t.c.

María Ostiz "Un pueblo es" A people is"

A people with a phrase you do not win or a poet disguise himself a people must be won with respect a people is more than a suitcase ...a people is to open a window in the morning and breathe the air smiling at each corner and work and work everyday putting a brick in the hope facing forward and without turning back.

Luz Casal "Un año de amor" (The original version is of Italian singer Nina)

Ours is over and you regret having ended a year of love, if now you're walking soon discover that the days are eternal and empty without me, night and not feel alone remember our happy days remember the taste of my kisses and you'll understand in a moment that means a year of love.

You were in that movie, do you remember ?,
in a morning east of Eden,
James Dean threw stones
a white house then I kissed you.
That was the first time,
Your lips were like paper,
and exit at the door
a sad inspector asked us our ID cards.
Then I went back to the academy
not to miss French class,
you wait for me hour and a half
in this table, I delayed me.

Would you like strawberry ice cream
or you prefer to ask and coffee ?.
Tell me how you are,
although I know it will answer me very well.
Ten, this picture is ugly,
the youngest was born.
Hey, bring me the account,
silent, it was I who invited you to eat.
You do not delay, lest
do not get there when the store;
call me the day you can,
hurry that's already four ten

Rosa León (Las cuatro y diez)

I want to be a troubadour of Spain, a cheese seller and songs. I'm going to die, he should not reveal these secrets. My God I think it would be able to sing any of these songs on a karaoke.
