The melodies are really old,but it is
the shepherds' creativty that always
changes the verses,it goes like this:


"When the breasts are like apples
To girls the hair grows"

The boys have come from Jina,Marginimea Sibiului,one of the
main hot-spots of Vlachness,their singing and verse styles are surely pastoral.

The emperor did not relent, but every year he marched into Bulgaria and laid

emperor and urged him to stay put and continue to assault the wall, while, as
he explained, he turned back with his men and, heading round to the south of
Kleidion through rough and trackless country, crossed the very high mountain
known as Belasica. On  July, in the twelfth indiction [, Xiphias and his
men] descended suddenly on the Bulgarians, from behind and screaming battle
cries. Panic stricken by the sudden assault [the Bulgarians] turned to flee, while
the emperor broke through the abandoned wall. Many [Bulgarians] fell and
many more were captured; Samuel barely escaped from danger with the aid of
his son, who fought nobly against his attackers, placed him on a horse, and
made for the fortress known as Prilep"

based on the Makedonikos dance Συρτος Syrtos or to the local idiom Domakini = housekeeper (Domos-a = house Δομη=structure)
and the poem is older by Panos Theodoridis
first singer was G Ntalaras.
and later performer is P Gaetanos
and is dedicated to the mother of Alexander the Great,
a song dedicated to the mother who's only son has left her alone.

The feelings are genuine,because the word for charms is a Latin one,
farmatse,farmece in Romanian;despite complaining,they are not selfish
and wish to all to be healthy.

An old Romanian song from Banat:

The singer is blind,but he sees the Moon as a lover,
addressing with the diminutive.
In fact, almost every word is involved in this process,he starts his lament
by asking the Moon to make light for keeping him out of the sad loneliness.
His sole hope came from the only other living beings,his horses,that carefully
became the messengers of love, to fly beyond the barriers of the two Worlds and
finally reach the Moon.


These songs are dedicated to all the Romanian and Vlach women.

The shepherd becomes a wandering Sisyphus, condemned by his own ambition,
he starts an useless search,finding only stones instead of sheeps.






"But, in the poetry edition among many shepherd songs we can
find one poem entitled: Wołoszyn owce rozproszył [the Vlach who had lost his sheep]
from O. Kolberg’s collection, discovered in Poznan."

I like alot the women from my father's county,Arges,an example of true grace and wit, always optimistic,tender and lively,although they have a more discrete appearance,not related to coldness or solemnity,it's just that these characteristics
aren't boosted,like in the case of the Italian,the attitude surely doesn't lack,but they are less aggressive than
ragazzas.Of course,these attributes imply sensitivity.

But, SW of Arges there is a region called Oltenia that strongly resembles ,
probably coincidentally,Italy,there is a great rivalry between these lands,
for the peoples from Arges "oltean" is a pejorative term,that designates a
way too inappropriate behaviour,this is alot,because they are too full of
arrogance and not always placid.

All of them,from Arges(don't look for the anthropological type
,the strong-Dinaric ones have far lesser chances to be models):

These kinds of comments sound like something my grandfather would have said, and I don't want to tell you when he was born, or like something out of some bad Victorian novel. Even my father didn't talk like this, much less my husband or my son. None of them were or are threatened by, or feel emasculated by strong women, or fear competing with them.

You people from the Balkans and eastern Europe really have to do some traveling and broaden your horizons; leave the sheep folds behind and come into the 21st or at least the 20th century.

My goodness, who knew 50 years behind the Iron Curtain would still have such an effect.

Who also knew people could write so many songs about sheep?

See what I mean? Be careful about starting things that may not come to a good end.

As some people have said here before, the Balkans and Eastern Europe are regions that are not necessarily safe to travel to, because of things such as nationalism. Romanians and Hungarians hate each other. I know this, because I have had both of them as friends. Romanians tell me of stories as children where they've had Hungarians beat them up. It probably still happens even as adults. Serbs hate Hungarians, and Hungarians like Albanians. It's a whole warzone out there. Romania though, is a very nice country, despite all this.

Anyway, to answer Angela ... It's good that people are waking up from the mayhem that ensues in the Balkans and Eastern Europe. Almost all those people despise each other, even Greeks and Turks etc. so it is very dangerous to venture out there. (that's a warning to anyone, who has never been there.) Always play it safe and do not loiter around. The mainstream media shelters people from the crimes that go on there. The Albanian and Serbian conflicts are just the worst.
