Hi, I am Petros, and I am Armenian.

Which genetic test would you recommend I take: Dodecad, Eurogenese, etc. Should I test my Y-DNA as well. What information does the test give you?
Are the most expensive tests necessarily better? What price range should I expect the test to cost me?

What if I were interested which European genotype I am more similar to? Which test would you recommend then?

What information does Y-DNA give you, that is important?
Would I get an idea of what illnesses I am genetically predisposed to developing?

23 and me costs 250 dollars. Do you think it is worth paying this much for the information they will give me in return for my payment?

They claim to give the following information:

  • View reports on over 100 health conditions and traits
  • Find out about your inherited risk factors and how you might respond to certain medications
  • Discover your lineage and find DNA relatives

[h=3]Introducing the Dodecad ancestry project[/h]

Welcome to the Dodecad ancestry project!

The Dodecad ancestry project, named for the Greek word for "group of twelve", aims to provide detailed ancestry analysis, primarily for Eurasian individuals. Please read on, if you want to participate; if not, please subscribe to the feed to keep up with the project's progress.

1) Project goals

The Dodecad ancestry project has two goals:

  1. To provide detailed ancestry analysis to individuals who have tested with 23andMe; other testing companies may be included in the future.
  2. To build samples of individuals for regions of the world (e.g. Greeks, Finns, Albanians, Southern Italians, etc.) currently under-represented in publicly available datasets.

I neither endorse nor am I affiliated with any genetic testing company. I have chosen to base the project on 23andMe results, because (i) I perceive that quite a few people have used the service, (ii) the Illumina genotyping platform it uses has substantial overlap with the publicly available datasets on which my analysis depends.

3) Who is eligible to participate

Due to my inability to process a large number of samples, at present, only the following groups are eligible to participate in the project's current pilot phase:

  1. Greeks (not necessarily from Greece: Cypriots, Pontic Greeks from the former USSR, North Epirotes, Griko speakers from Italy, Muslim rumca speakers from Turkey, etc. are all accepted)
  2. People from the Balkans
  3. People from Anatolia
  4. People from the Caucasus
  5. Italians
  6. Non-Indo-European speakers from Europe (e.g., Finns, Hungarians, Basques)
  7. Scandinavians and Icelanders
  8. Iranians
  9. Armenians
  10. Jews from Italy, the Balkans, or Anatolia
  11. Assyrians
  12. Arabs

23andMe began offering direct to consumer genetic testing in November 2007. Customers provide a saliva testing sample that is partially SNP genotyped and results are posted online. In 2008, when the company was offering estimates of "predisposition for more than 90 traits and conditions ranging from baldness to blindness", Time magazine named the product Invention of the Year.

Uninterpreted raw genetic data is posted online and may be downloaded by customers. Customers who bought tests with an ancestry-related component have online access to genealogical DNA test results and tools including a relative-matching database. US customers who bought tests with a health-related component and received health-related results before November 22, 2013 have online access to an assessment of inherited traits and genetic disorder risks. Health-related results for US customers who purchased the test from November 22, 2013 were suspended until late 2015 while undergoing an FDA regulatory view Customers who bought tests from 23andMe's Canadian and UK locations have access to some health-related results.

As of June 2015, 23andMe has genotyped over 1,000,000 individuals. FDA marketing restrictions have reduced customer growth.

Which countries do you think I can pass in, in Europe?

I am planning on spending some money on genealogical DNA testing to see what admixtures I have in my genetics.
Which test would you recommend for me? What are the pros and cons of a particular test?

Do you prefer DNA testing for health and lognevity or genealogical? I am seriously interested in the former, but also quite enthusiastic about the latter. Which types of genetic testing do you prefer?

ftDNA or 23andme I think. There are other new and good companies too.

This is a good spot to put up my Dodecad V3 results, because I have an interesting question.

I understand the Ashkenazi popping up often, because Sicilians and Maltese plot closely to Ashkenazi, but it's these constant links to the Caucasus which keeps showing up: Armenia, Georgia, Assyrian, Ossetia, etc.

I've noted other Sicilians picking these up as well, I'm thinking it's some sort of neolithic marker, EEFs, etc, does anyone have a theory on this?

In Greece and for test you can take 23andme for 150$, 250 is more expansive version.
I would recomand you getting Y12 on ftdna for 50$ with cupon. As for your look and where u pass in Europe i would say Greece and Bosnia

I hate how these tests MUST show some form of jew ancestry within Caucasians (Armenians and other native Caucasians as well)
