Hello, can anyone help me with predicting the subclade of (most probably) I2 from my STR values?
Should I take any further tests (SNP) to confirm the haplogroup?

Thanks

Cullen's Predictor guesses you to be probably "I-S31*-B", which is old nomenclature for I2c2, with I2a-Din-N a distant second place. It seems that you would be an unusual case of either of those, with effectively no close matches in ysearch, or in the I2b/I2c project on FTDNA. So it seems that SNP tests are needed for you, which is honestly rather rare for I2 carriers.

Many thanks sparkey. Is the nevgen predictor of any worth? It says 99.9% I2c2. What do you recommend for the SNP tests? Any possibility I can be something else other than I2?

I usually defer to FTDNA project admins on which SNPs members should test, so maybe you could ask Bob May since multiple predictors are calling you I2c2 (contact info on the left at the project here).

By the way, assuming that you are in fact I2c2, congratulations! You belong to the absolute weirdest Haplogroup I subclade on the planet, with a truly bizarre distribution that has apparent expansions in Caucasian nobility, Northeastern European Jews, and Cretans, along with a rare but apparently somewhat older presence in Central Europe. Famous suspected carriers include Pavel Tsitsianov and Noe Zhrodania (see my thread here). It has been found in two important ancient samples, one being from Mesolithic Sweden (Motala) and one being from Unetice culture Germany (Esperstedt). Hovann Simonian has some crazy but intriguing theories about it in this video. And, of course, you can read about it on Eupedia here, or reboot our discussion on this forum about it here.

Thanks much I contacted Bob. It seems I need to get more testing from FTDNA. Hope I will know my HG soon.

Hello, back after a year or so. Just got my livingdna test results. Y-DNA: I-L596.
They provide a raw data file with positive tested SNPs (274 lines - no negatives), any advise how I could get any further using that?
Which particular SNPs to look for in there?

Any help much appreciated!

Latest Mesolithic Scandinavia study shows, that the I2c haplogroups there are rather I2c1, which is more logical with the current distribution in Europe.

Here is the Genetiker haplogroup analysis:

I personally think I2c2 is a back migration to Europe from Caucasus/Anatolia during the Bronze age or later. It is definitely missing from Balkan Mesolithics and Neolithics.

Hello,
Im trying to determine whether I am I2c. My 23 and me results came back as just Im438. Both of my fathers parents were East Prussian refugees that fled to Canada after the war . My surname is of old Prussian origin and still exists as a placename .
Thanks

The use of the term I2c is deprecated as the name changes when new SNPs are identified. The proper name is I-L596 or I2-L596. One can test the SNP alone at YSEQ. Use google YFULL I-L596 to see the updated haplotree of L596
