If you are interested in more Y-DNA resolution, YSEQ has some products that help. The best and most expensive options for any YDNA data is a full sequence. New sequences advance the data available and then others can "follow the lead" to see if they match. This post is about SNP testing rather than STR testing.

M253 pack - $99 - for those with this broad result or STR markers that aren't more specific

The following options are the main branches of M253 and allow you to save $11 if already known:

Z63 "continental" panel - $88
L22 panel $88 (the main Nordic branch, under Z2336)
Z140 panel $88 (under Z58, Z69, Z60)
Z2539 panel $88 (under Z58, Z69, Z60)

I just ordered the Z63 pack, the shipping is $5 extra and I'll keep the forum updated for timing and results.

Looks like yseq has another snp test available under FGC24357. Just purchased A15918. Has anyone tried their wish a test option? I'm considering possibly doing that for other snps under FGC24357 since FTDNA currently won't let me test any of them.

Update:

Ordered Sep 4
Mailed out to me on Sep 5
Mailed to them Sep 11
They received Sep 18

First results posted Sep21 (very fast!)

A bunch of negatives for R1b, E1b1b, J1 and negative for S2077 and L1237 which I already knew from Ancestry.com data file. There were 13 negative alleles posted.

I'm guessing they update on Wednesdays.

9/27 received 12 more negative alleles, the most significant being BY351-. That is a blow to my expectations. Negative for S2077, L1237, and BY351 probably means I'm headed for Z63* or a rare branch. I should have gone straight for the Big-Y.

I noticed a Z63 is processing in addition to the "Z63 Continental Panel" so I'm guessing they want to confirm Z63 before proceeding further.

Still getting weekly results. I'm negative for everything, the last SNP is pending now. If it's positive then I'm negative for BY151. If it's negative then I'm simply Z63*.

This could get interesting! Is Big Y still on the table or do you think if you are I-Z63* that Big Y isn't worth it?

The big Y will be worth it if I can get the cash together.

I'm debating forking over the money now despite the unfortunate USD-CAD exchange. Though I'm inclined to wait a bit, perhaps for the holiday sale at FTDNA.

That's 32 new alleles tested for only Y13953 (some listed by 2 or 3 names but same location). YSEQ's determinations of a single SNP are calculated using many single locations.

I've tested negative for all known branches of Z63, they are now processing S2078 and Y15774 which are both downstream of L849.2 (negative). If they use many SNPs to verify a location in the tree then perhaps L849.2 is a slippery location that might mutate back to the ancestral value.

I already know I'm negative for the single S2078 mutation which was in my Ancestry file.
