From my own personal experience, whenever I find myself breaking out of focus, I look around and observe my surroundings. It could be a hard wired instinct passed down from hunters when they had to shift their attention from the prey they were hunting to their surroundings to ensure there aren't any wolves or other predators around.

Its amazing how my condition could be attributed to wolves and lions.
