I can't answer your question apart from to say I have just encountered this situation on a test with 23andme, where the results show DF13- and Z2542+. Anyone have any ideas?
It is surely possible that there could be a DF13- Z2542+ person out there. However, it is very, very unlikely. There have been over 10,000 R-DF13,Z2542 people tested in FTDNA's database and so far everyone who is positive for one is positive for the other.
The chip based Y SNP based testing is not as a reliable so my prediction is that these cases are testing errors.
Are you positive for any downstream SNPs from DF13+ Z2542+? If you are, this is probably a testing error. If you are negative for all tested downstream SNPs then I recommend a test like Big Y700 to get a fix on where you really fit in. https://www.familytreedna.com/public/y-dna-haplotree/R;name=R-DF13
