Venice's maritime empire was known as the Stato da mar or the Oltremare

Term Oltermare was used in Candia (Crete ) .........ie...Colonie d'oltremare ( colonies in Crete , basically )


Its a place ...............it was a term they used only for Candia after they lost Cyprus to the Ottomans

Venetian Albania was a zone under a Military General to look after ................it ranged from Ragusa ( Dubrovnik ) to Durres ( Albania )

This General was to look after the defence of this area, recruitment, supplies etc
