Ancestry DNA Update

Again, I'm not as "matchy", doubtless because I come from two areas which although close as the bird flies, are different autosomally.

My closest match is once again the French admixed Corsican.

Nice to see I'm not terribly far from Bell Beaker from Parma. I'm pretty sure that's the sample which has very little steppe in it. That correlates with the similar number I get for Neolithic Vucedol from the Balkans. So far as I know the Tuscan sample is northeast of Firenze.

With the latest update 2 of my friends went from 2 or 3% to 0% Balkan and 100% Albania and Greece.

What did that 2-3% Balkan mean anyway?

in my case, (maybe most other Apulians too) is probably traces of some ancestral component that the Iapygians (Dauni, Peuceti, Messapi) shared with the Ancient Populations that inhabited the highlighted locations below:

Could be, I?m confused by all this autosomal thingy. If these tests can pick up such ancient ancestries from Messapians and Iapygians 3000 years ago, why Albanians don?t get 20-40% Ukraine/Belarus from 1500 years ago? I also get 100% in 23andme.

No one is 100% of something.

These companies have determined the various base components and percentages of main populations / places.

If the Ancestral Components Ratio of a user falls in a predetermined range assigned to a place the user could get 100% of that place / population.

If the user does Not fully match a Main predetermined Ancestral Component, he/she get assigned percentages of his/her main closest matching places / populations.

2nd Map

You got that Vatican City Swaggg!

PS: Yeah I know, that's Rome. :D

… my point was that Ancestry doesn’t assign Lecce / Salento to me, though MyHeritage does.

In such cases I would write them a 5 min email. Usually they take costumer feedback to heart.

… nah, I much rather Land my carbon “footprint” into your feedback :)

did I somehow strike a nerve? I wasn't even being offensive. Guess swag must have a negative connotation over the pond...
Either way. Salute!

My results ----> much of my heritage seems to have been re-assigned to Northern Italy

Ireland 29% -- up from 26%
Northern Italy 27% -- up from 10% (?????)
Southern Italy 24% -- down from 31%
Scotland 10% -- down from 12%
England & NW Europe 3% -- up one percentage point from 2%
Wales 3% -- same as before
Norway 2% -- up from zero, though my mother had previously shown tiny fraction Norway
Russia & East Europe 2% -- same as before

And I now have zero France ---> previously 9% (went to Northern Italy?)
Zero Germanic Europe ---> previously 3% (went to Norway?)
Zero Greece & Albania ---> previously 2%

… no changes, … still the same.

No change for me either, September results are the same as the July updated results that I disclosed in post #88.

Slight change for me:

Previous results
Greece and
Albania 53%
Balkans 44%
Baltics 2%
Eastern Europe and Russia 1%

New Results

Greece and Albania 48%
Balkans 44%
Aegean Islands 8%

From my recollection, you plot fairly close to me on a PCA.

I don't recall. One of these days I will plot myself on a PCA. On one of those closeness maps I score an 82 in the Peloponnese and another 82 in what is now Bulgaria with a 78 around Albania/Kossovo and Romania with 75s in Italy I think.
