Why did I receive different Y DNA Haplo assignments from FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe?

FamilyTreeDNA assigns me to Y I-M253

23andme assigns me to Y I-L22
 
I-M253 is I1: I-L22 is I1a1b; it is merely further down the subclade tree.
