On line calculator from Genetic Geneology Tools blog

Thanks to Wheal for bringing it to our attention.

Wheal, I got the ancient dna calculator to work, with rather interesting results, but I can't seem to get the one working which you used. I don't see anywhere to browse and input my 23andme file on the calculator page.

Do you happen to know the identity of the numbered samples in the ancient calculator?

Here are the results I got with the breakdown of DNA

The mt & Y groups at the top are the kits I ran the calculator against

To run the calculator, you download the calculator and then just click on your raw data files that you have saved in your files. You don't upload any of the data to the calculator. It took me a bit to figure it out.

I couldn't get it to spit out the whole run at once, but I could do it one at a time.

I'm "matchier" with some of the samples. Some of it I understand as it makes sense I would have more "EEF", but it's not across the board. I get low scores with some of the Neolithic farmer samples, but a "high"?one for LBK and NE1. I'll have to think about whether that might mean anything, i.e. different Neolithic waves, or just drift.

My high scores with BR2 NE1 don't surprise me. My area of Italy correlates highly with those two samples in academic samples. I have to look up both of those Bronze Age samples and figure out the differences.

The Hinxton scores also make sense.

Yes, I had to run them one at a time (quite a few runs) for 5 people for the whole list of samples. What I found interesting, was the 5th sample and the first sample were so similar in result percentages. The first one is most probably from Dutch heritage an, and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th were Germany, possibly Poland and England (in that order) but the middle three are more similar.

The % totals at the end were simply my being curious, but I have to wonder if that would be an indication of the amount of overlap with modern among the samples.

@ Wheal

Great calculator, thanks for finding it!

Thanks for posting, Jovialis. Let's hope some people from other parts of Europe post. I'd be interested to see German and Eastern European scores, and Spain and the Balkans too.

I also read a note somewhere on the website that said if you know where to get more samples to let him know and he would add them. Although it was quite a bit of work to compare, It was still an interesting calculator to use since it was by individual.

I've borrowed Jovialis's graph but was lazy to do all of them...
The strongest one is NE1 - 22.06%

For convenience in case other people want to share their results; here's a list of all the sample populations in alphabetical order. The way I did it was that I put them in a google docs spread sheet. Then I auto-arranged it by the highest value. For clarity, I highlighted the percentages 1% or higher in a brighter yellow.

If Linearbandkeramik is another name for LBK Stuggart, my old data from “Gedmatch Archaic Matches” matches yours top results by Hierarchy but doesn’t show the percentages.

I compared your IMG to my Results.

Thanks, Stuvane. Yeah, I just re-ran some of the important samples using my v3 results and everything changed. It's so annoying and disheartening, both. Everytime I think a calculator is half way decent there's some catch.

My "farmer" samples only went up a few points, so I still don't have scores as high as you for LBK or NEI or even BR1, but my WHG and ANE scores went way up.

Loschbour: 14.69

Mal'ta: 14.40

I get matches with Hinxton, now too.

These are huge differences. I'm sure the same thing would happen for Jovialis if he had v3.

I'm starting to think the v5 leaves out too many alleles. It's useless comparing scores unless you're using the same iteration of the test. I'd test with FTDNA but I have no confidence at all in their results.

Well, 23andme just wanted to sell our data to pharmaceuticals anyway. I don't know if they're being honest, but I never gave them the power to share my data with anyone, and, in fact, I told them to destroy the sample.

Btw, did you ever test with Ancestry, and if you did what did you think?
