Folklore Balkan folk rhythms

Yesterday, strange thing happened into the forest,I was walking near some old oaks and suddenly saw what appeared to be a woman,when I went after her into the thicket a great weakness put me down;the last thing that I remember, she turned me into a woodpecker.
 
As you can tell the local Arvanite populations adopted the music of their neighbors but they maintained their language.

Κjo kenga eshte shume e bukur ! Jam Arvanit. Ne jemi ne katunte afer Athines tor tor ! Gjyshja ime fliste Arvanisht ! Kishte mbiemer Leka.Ne erdhem ketu ne vitin 1415 kur ishte ne Athine princi Nerio Aciajoli Italiani nga Firenze.Jemi ketu gjashtekind vitera!Ju lutemi,na shkruani fjaljat te kenges.Kuptoj shume,po jo te tera.Vajza ne ikon eshte Katerina Bocari Karatza (1820-1872),e bija e Marko Bocarit dhe ishte adjutant afer Mbretereshes Amalise ne Athine ! Me falni qe nuk shkruaj mire ,po dialekti arvanisht eshte shume e vjeter pa shkolla.Melodia eshte nostalgik dhe me vijne lote ne syte.Efharishto shume dhe tere trima te jeni mire !

This is what we call "popular" Greek music. It was brought over by the refugees from Constantinople and Izmir. it does have a lot of common elements and similar instruments as Turkish popular music.

The other music is the traditional music and varies with locale. You have Thracian Music, Pontian Music, Nisiotiki (Agean Island) music, Cretan music, Peloponnesian Music, Epirotic music, Thessaly music, Macedonian music and finally Ionian Islands music. There is also some Cappadocian music and East Romylia music. I am sure I have left out some.
