Elections to the Parliament of Andalusia 2018

    The 'Voxexplosion' in Andalusia

Andalusian elections, the left falls, the ultra right arrives

Our political analyst refers to the results of those recently held in Andalusia not only as a change in this community, but as a real revulsive on the map of the rest of the State.

The elections in Andalusia in 2018 will always be linked to the emergence of Vox in Spanish parliamentarism. It seems that the Catalan independence process has been very present in the electoral tables of the south. The result in Andalusia is an advance of what was predicted for the European elections. All the analyzes expected a favorable result for Vox in May, but the expectations opened after the current result are absolutely new, both in the European and in the (imminent) general elections.

There is a new panorama for the PP. Never, until now, the popular ones had needed to navigate with a rear-view mirror on both sides, right and left. The irruption of Citizens in the national sphere meant a narrowing of their space; the explosion of Vox in these elections will further diminish its political space.

The two parties that have increased their parliamentarians in Andalusia have been Citizens and Vox. These are the parties that have most clearly manifested their position as Spanish nationalists. The balconies that placed the flag have voted in Andalusia. The defense of territoriality now has three interpreters, three sensitivities: the PP, the Citizens and the new Vox. The Sanchez government will have to reflect on whether the policy of tempering gaitas with the Catalan independence movement has taken its toll on the Andalusian polls. The very bold policy of Sanchez can be affected by the strange boomerang effect of the failure of Susana Díaz in these autonomies.

    New party scheme
The entrance of Vox in the map of parties is the second adjustment of the partisan scheme created in the transition, after the disappearance of UCD. The crisis of 2009 caused the appearance of Podemos and the disembarkation of Citizens in the national sphere. The subsequent institutional crisis evidenced by the abdication of the previous monarch, the trial of Gürtel with its derivations, the cases of corruption in Andalusia and, above all, the attack on the territorial integrity of the State by the Catalan separatists, have facilitated a new adjustment to the distribution of seats in parliaments. The new party will gain visibility in the face of the new municipal, autonomous and European elections. Public funding will favor that visibility will be transformed into many councilors and regional deputies.

The electoral period has not just begun. From here to May we will see the national government tie itself to the masthead, try to hold all the storms and delay the electoral appointment to the maximum.

The Andalusian voters, either because of the confidence that the results of the CIS polls guaranteed the PSOE's continuity, or because of the satiety after 40 years of socialist government, have decided collectively to close a historic period. In this case the southern earthquake threatens to have replicas in the rest of the territories.
