"Stenchme, Lop Ness, Sanday (Orkney, Scotland): A crouched human burial was excavated in 2000 from eroding coastal sand dunes on the island of Sanday, Orkney (Canmore ID 306622, https://canmore.org.uk/site/306622/sanday-stenchme)113. The Early Bronze Age burial lay in a stone cist measuring 1.3 m north-south by 0.9 m east-west, and was apparently associated with lithics and pottery (https://canmore.org.uk/site/306622/sandaystenchme). A human petrous bone was successfully analyzed for ancient DNA:

Nice comparison. The bronze age sample looks surprisingly modern, but this is before supposed Germanic migration. I would say this is very likely evidence of Germanic/Scandinavian presence on the Isles earlier than previously thought.

Other Bronze Age uploads look less "Germanic" and much more typical Insular Celtic:

Bronze Age Outer Hebrides: https://www.eupedia.com/forum/threa...rides-with-Megalithic-Y-DNA-haplogroup-I2a2a1

Late Bronze Age Caledonia: https://www.eupedia.com/forum/threads/37945-Late-Bronze-Age-Caledonians

The bronze age sample looks surprisingly modern
Actually in K36 it is not super similar to any modern group (no scores higher than 85 in similarity map).

But it shows that there was a genetic "Nordic-shift" in Orkney Islands very long before the Viking Age.

Wow, the earlier one was really Neolithic farmer. I wouldn't imagine Orkney would be good farming country, maybe they switched to fishing. And it bears out the population replacement; the Bronze Age guy is much more similar to current area populations.

Neolithic farmers looked after animals too. just because they wasnt drinking milk that does not mean they had no animals at all.
Thats why they were shipped in in the first place :)

The early bronze age Orcadian K13 is very modern indeed. Here is mine; not so different....

Curiously on the map I see a W-Breton at 81 ?!? he is not so close to Swedes and Norwegians, only to Danes and North Sea people. An explanation?

Wow what could this possibly mean? A sporadic BA contact of the Orkney islands (or of the ancestors of that individual - possibly in Scandinavia?) with ANE+ENA Siberians or maybe with Greenlanders (which also started to be peopled by North American natives around 2500 B.C.)? Or is it just an artifact of a slightly higher than average (for modern populations) ANE?

The 'amerindianlike' is very low: either noise or some north-siberian already present among Scandinavians at those time, what I think BTW. But it recall me the high level (later) of Y-Q among "British" Vikings (Orkney and Sth-Liverpool region). Maybe coincidence here? It may concerne another thread but this N-Breton (the closest to the Orcadian) put me to think in the curiously high presence of Y-R1b-U106 todate in North Brittany and in Wales (in Wales it seems people spoke of non-common clades) and in East England BEFORE the Anglo-Saxons era. Some archeologists spoke too of possible traces of "Germanics" people in east England (Yorksh) at IA...
Maybe the West and East Isles phenomenon has nothing to do one with another? But I remember the "Great Tumuli" period in N-Brittany, close to Wessex Culture, so after the BB times, with evident contacts with the Rhine mouth in the Netherlands. Y-U106 (and some Y-1) from this time? Some skeletons of 'northern types' in Brittany.
Could it be the tail effects of the trades/exchanges launching of the BB people, who was in contact with individual tombs and CWC people in the Netherlands?

The Bronze Age Orcadian is consistent with earlier Irish samples, which are R1b-L21. I would estimate that their ancestors had moved across the North Sea by at least 2,000 BC, or possibly quite some time before then.

The Irish samples look like an autosomal mix with Western Corded Ware people, rather than with the Neolithic population - similar to Scandinavia, where there are further signs of R1b-Corded Ware mixing. Perhaps unlike Central Germany in the late third millennium BC, where there was an apparent R1b Bell Beaker wipe-out of Corded Ware, which itself had already wiped out much of the Neolithic population.

Is I2981 male or female?

Sent from my SM-G935V using Eupedia Forum mobile app
I downloaded the Ychr BAM from NCBI. I'll post a chart of the reads later and double check that I didn't grab the wrong sample. Edit, I did, which I suspected when I got the same result as the other one already posted. Sorry.

I have verified that sample I2630 is the following

I2-M423 +

Based on 1 positive read for P37 (C) and 6 positive reads for M423 (A).

I matched, deepdive on MTA with I2981. Interested in reading more on this find and not sure how to match on Gedmatch.

Hello, as I had matched to I2981 I was hoping to look it up on Gedmatch as you wrote you had downloaded.
Apologies, I am very new to this and tried but received a message the kit was private.
