I think your 2 population split is probably the closest to reality in terms of "proximate" populations.

The "Aegean" is part of the make up of the "Thessalian" like ancestry.

All of this is very ancient; nothing to do with recent ancestry.

Niko,

In case it makes you feel any better, both my parents are Greek without any mixture that we know of, and my Living DNA results were as follows:

Aegean 41.7%
East Balkans 37%
Tuscany 13.3%
Iberian Peninsula 6.8%
North Turkey 1.1%

where East Balkans "spans across present day Romania, Bulgaria and parts of Moldova and Serbia" :)

My admixture as per Eurogenes K-13 and the 2- and 4-populations approximations of the corresponding 4-Ancestors Oracle are as follows:

Geia sou pan,
Thank you for your reply.

East Balkan may also represent the north east of Greece close to Bulgaria and Turkey maybe.

But the most surprising is your almost 8% Iberian! That's a lot for a Greek.

From which part are you from?

Yes, indeed; I was surprised by this one too!
Actually what makes it even more interesting is that even in the Cautious mode of Living DNA the 6.8% for Iberian Peninsula persists.
I've got four (4) theories already:
1) Parts of Greece, and more importantly in my case, parts of Central Greece (where my mother comes from - my father comes from Thessaly) where occupied by "the Franks" in the 13th, 14th and first half of 15th century. First the French, then, most importantly in our case, the Catalans, and last the Florentines occupied East Central Greece (Duchy of Athens and Duchy of Neopatra)
2) There where a few Jews in cities in Thessaly, especially Trikala. However, my single population matches do not produce any Sephardic Jew affinity
3) Vlachs (this pertains mostly to the Thessaly side). Vlach language is a Romance language akin to Romanian. Vlachs could well be Greek stock who adopted Latin in the Roman times or Roman soldiers that settled in the Balkans (most likely it's a bit of both). This could include Roman soldiers originating in Spain.
4) Something very ancient (my Y-haplogroup is I-M223, I-L701 which is pre-neolithic hunter-gatherer). It might be LGM-refugia DNA.

It's Eastern Mediterranean ancestry in Serbians. Nothing surprising in your results except that maybe 30% is really a lot but this is due to the usual lack of accuracy of LivingDNA.
