It seems to be failing, perhaps partly because of Russia.

Unless you're living under a rock, you should know what life is now like for these people. It used to be one of the richest countries in Latin America. This is how quickly extreme socialism can bring a country down.

Bernie Sanders on Venezuela not too long ago. He endorsed the following editorial.

""These days, the American dream is more apt to be realized in South America, in places such as Ecuador, Venezuela and Argentina, where incomes are actually more equal today than they are in the land of Horatio Alger. Who's the banana republic now?" the piece states."

Yeah, there's less of an income gap alright. EVERYONE is starving, can't get medication, and has no gas or electricity.

Way to go, Bernie.

I wonder what people would find if they go through the comments by Ocasia-Cortez or Kamala Harria or any of the other Democratic hopefuls from the "progressive wing"?

The People are not armed in Venezuela.
The government banned gun ownership in 2012.
As they say: They’ll always come for your guns first.

Bernie is a delusional old man. imo :)

This is not about extreme socialism, their lives were better even under Maduro's government before the parliament tried a riot. The problem is the USA's embargo on Venezuela.

Cuba and Venezuela are poor because of the US embargo ... and the rest of the Latin American countries are poor for trading with the United States.
Marxist economic policies are never to blame for anything ....

Sarcasm is hard, and likely to be understood . . . All I know is that Venezuela used to be a rich nation and many people pointed out years ago that the policies of that government would lead to ruin. Maybe those "experts" didn't know what they were talking about, it wouldn't be the first time, but today the people suffer and it seems there is no way out as long as the military supports the government rather than the people.

He's not the only old baby boomer who has learned nothing in all these years. There's not one country ever who grew prosperous under extreme socialism or communism, but "true believers" don't operate with reason and logic. It's all about emotion and "faith". It's like an anorexic looking in a mirror and thinking they look great.

I don't know if you've ever read about the "Cambridge Five", the upper crust Englishmen who became Communist agents and operated for years, betraying their country, before being caught and high tailing it for the Soviet Union, where they were entombed in deteriorating buildings with no contact with the west. They turned to drink and all died. Even when they saw what Russia was like, what their handlers were really like, what life was like for the common Russian people, they apparently were incapable of admitting it was a huge lie.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is a fictionalized version of part of it.

People can't admit they've dedicated their lives to a lie.

Yes Bernie, the American dream is income equality even if that's due to everyone not having any income at all. Let's all be poor

He wants to turn America into communist Russia.

Bernie Soviet Honeymoon, who does that ..., disturbing video, shirtless Bernie, wife, and Russians celebrating ... weird, It would have been better for everyone if he stayed in Russia forever.

@Davef Income equality by redistribution is the Lazy Paradise, but history proves that it will eventually become Hell.

it's a common story
create an ideology and blaim the oponents as saboteurs
it works all the time
stupid people chose to be mislead and impose their ideology on their fellow countrymen
and a bit of corruption and favouritism helps to keep the supporters happy

Yeah, all equal and all poor. Sounds familiar to me this sentence, 45 years of equality and poverty...

Early career
Education and union work

Maduro attended a public high school, the Liceo José Ávalos, in El Valle.[42][59] His introduction to politics was when he became a member of his high school's student union.[41] According to school records, Maduro never graduated from high school.[46]
In 1979, Maduro was recognized as a person of interest by Venezuelan authorities in the kidnapping of William Niehous [es],[60] an American employee of Owens-Illinois who was held hostage by leftist militants who would later become close to Hugo Chávez.[61]
Maduro found employment as a bus driver for many years for the Caracas Metro company. He began his political career in the 1980s, by becoming an unofficial trade unionist representing the bus drivers of the Caracas Metro system. He was also employed as a bodyguard for José Vicente Rangel during Rangel's unsuccessful 1983 presidential campaign.[46][62]
At 24 years of age, Maduro resided in Havana with other militants of leftist organizations in South America who had moved to Cuba in 1986, attending a one-year course at the Escuela Nacional de Cuadros Julio Antonio Mella, a centre of political education directed by the Union of Young Communists.[45] During his time in Cuba, Maduro received vigorous training under Pedro Miret Prieto (es), a senior member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Cuba who was close to Fidel Castro.[63]
A Made in Cuba communist.
Excuse me, with all the respect for the bus drivers around the world, but there wasn't someone better than him in Venezuela? He has not finished even the high school.

Just a question to all of you,

VENEzUELA HAS OIL? OR NOT?

Just a question to all of you,

VENEzUELA HAS OIL? OR NOT?

A trick question. Nice :)

Countries should choose their allies carefully, or there will be consequences.

Nothing, not even Oil can save a Government from sanctions when it threatens the national security of a Superpower.

also, lately there’s basically an oil Surplus in the World, more or less.

Just a question to all of you,

VENEzUELA HAS OIL? OR NOT?

Of course, Venezuela has oil.
And the regime used the power of the petro-dollars to buy the will of corrupt governments, like the government of my country ...
