I said then, and I think it's true he had Marco Polo beat. :)

Fascinating, yes? Yet virtually unheard of in the west.

To think of what he did, while most people of his time went no further than a few miles from home.
 
I once read an article in the National Geographic on him. He was from Morocco, I believe.
