Probably not, according to this article.

In the interests of full disclosure I've always been skeptical of these advisories. If you could see how much salt all my ninety-something year old Italian relatives (and I have LOTS who made it way into their nineties) put in the pasta water, or how much very salty cured pork products they eat, or how they add salt to the food all the time, you'd fall over.

I liken it to the "low fat" craze that had so many people eating low fat everything and steadily getting fatter.

As my dad used to say, push yourself away from the table while you're still a little hungry. I'd add: don't load up on tons of fats and tons of starches as well.
