Wearing high heels as female mating strategy

I never thought of it in those terms at all, but I do remember saying that the day I had to put away my high heels would be the day I gave up. :)

I still have some of these in my closet. I can't bear to throw them out. I loved these shoes. I wore these to work everyday.

These are the precise Bruno Magli's I was wearing to a Mardi Gras party in New Orleans when some drunken yahoo idiot vomited all over my feet. I almost decked him with my purse. I've never been to Mardi Gras since. They can have it. Barbarians.

I hope I don't have to eat my words. :)

    "Highlights

•Preference for high heels correlated with female self-perceived attractiveness.
•Shorter body height correlated with preferences for high heels.
•High heels were most preferred in interaction with an attractive male.
•High heels were least preferred in interaction with an unattractive male.
•High heels are female sexual signals.

    Abstract

Females use various behavioural tactics in order to attract the attention of a desirable mate. Wearing high heels enhances female physical attractiveness for the opposite sex, thus their use seems to be a powerful sexual signal. We investigated female preferences for high heels both in everyday life as well as in a hypothetical mating scenario. Slovak females reported a low frequency of wearing high heels (45% once per month, 38% never) in everyday life. Females with a lower body height and high self-perceived attractiveness reported more frequent use of high heels than others. Sociosexuality and involvement in a romantic relationship did not predict the wearing of high heels. When females imagined an interaction with an attractive male, preferences for high heels steeply increased compared with a scenario with an unattractive male. Females with a low body height use high heels in all probability to visually elongate their leg length in order to increase their physical attractiveness. High heels seem to be a form of sexual signalling by females in intersexual interactions."

I certainly didn't and don't wear them for men. I wore and wear them for myself. They make me feel feminine, and believe it or not even a high heel is more comfortable for me than flats. My arches hurt in flats.

It's all about femininity. A girl who wear makeup, have her nails done, wear high heels and a skirt is more attractive than a boyish girl for the most men.

So a girl who doesnt wear makeap, without her nails done and high heels is considered boyish? What a label, dude...natural beauty can be graceful and attractive. Taking care of your body and loving yourself is the key to confidence.

^^Yes, and I'm sure you're absolutely stunningly gorgeous, right?

    I beg leave to doubt.

I'm quite the Francophile and Anglophile in terms of culture, but with some exceptions, who are usually outliers, I've never been overwhelmed by the beauty of the men in either country, and I've traveled extensively in both.

See how easy it is to be rude to other people?

You sound very young, young enough not to realize that this kind of trash talking is not at all attractive, not even to attractive women. I've yet to meet one who likes vulgar, insensitive boorish men.

I'd worry more about what's between women's ears and in their hearts if I were you, and in yours for that matter. The divorce rate isn't what it is for no reason you know.

Overall, I think that Italians are more objectively beautiful than the French and the English (both men and women - though I think there are more beautiful women in France than beautiful men). Or rather, you'll find more handsome people in Italy per square km than in France, Germany or GB. Which, of course, doesn't mean there aren't beauties in those countries.

I remember an Italian restaurant in London, the waiters were all quite handsome and charming - particularly one with dark hair and absolutely stunning blue eyes. Let's say that though French men can definitely be good-looking, the handsomeness of Italians is maybe more striking and distinguished, whereas the French are perhaps plainer (overall).
That being said, I don't really give a damn anymore. I think that when one is over 40, it's time to focus on other less superficial things. I can certainly appreciate a man's or a woman's beauty for purely aesthetic reasons, nothing more. Heck, even when I toured Northern Italy in my 20's, my eyes were focused on the countryside and the monuments (and the food), not on the hot guys. Vastly more interesting and fascinating, if you ask me

I agree with you, Tardis. In the long run, as I said, what's between the ears and in the heart is far more important.

However, I can't say I wasn't (and still am) distracted by a handsome man passing by. I've just always been like that, and I doubt I'll change as I get older. We are who we are...

Thank God the infatuation of my life turned out to be a good man, and that I have and always had, a lot of self control. :)

Mainly, I was just irritated by what I see much too often on the internet: the trash talking of the appearance of women by men unlikely to be, no matter the nationality, gorgeous beauties themselves. Indeed, having just gone to a high school reunion, I can confirm that most women nowadays hold up a lot better than the men. :)

I personally believe that anything above a 2" heel is very harmful to women as far as foot health is concerned. My wife who is 5'3", 115lbs has already had 3 foot operations to correct for excessive heel heights. Shorties, you are cute without resorting to 5" heels. There is a reason we married you and it was not the heels.

maybe roman slavery had an effect on the average attractivness of french and italians. one region got uglier while the other one became more beautiful. then again the most beautiful people, only looking at the face, are found in the caucasus and kurdish regions so maybe it's just a cline with western europe beeing at the end of it.

if you say they make you feel more feminin, what exactly about them is it that makes you feel more feminin?
a thing with high heels is, that the women (or men) look more defenseless. also while walking, the hips and bottom are moving a bit more and the walking is turning a bit into a strut. and maybe the calves are getting a bit more pronounced?

I don't doubt that some women have had problems with wearing high heels, but it never bothered me, so long as the shoes were made of pliable leather. However, I have high arches, and I really have to wear a bit of a heel to support them, so that may have something to do with it. I find wearing really flat shoes highly uncomfortable. Of course, a two inch heel would be perfectly adequate for comfort. So, I admit, wearing a four inch heel wasn't for comfort.

I'm also five six so I didn't wear four to five inch heels to look taller, although I know women do that.

I just always thought it made the legs look better, elongating them, accentuating a nice calf if you have one, and you do walk differently; less clumping around and more gliding. They make a lot of women feel more feminine, including me, like a bit of mascara or a slick of lip gloss, or silky garments. That may not be "correct" to say nowadays, but it's the truth for a lot of women.

Whatever floats your boat is my attitude; if you don't want to wear any makeup at all and wear leggings, a big top, and sneakers all the time, more power to you. Live and let live.

Well I never said the French or Western Europeans were ugly, far from it (and that would be stupid to say that). I said the Italians as a people were overall more handsome (some people might disagree). Being somewhat 'plainer' doesn't mean one's ugly. I think the word I was looking for to describe Italians (especially the men) is 'spicy', the French//British being a bit more bland (overall).

well, "uglier" is not the same as "ugly". didn't say they are ugly but saying they are less attractive kinda implies that they are uglier. maybe the word is a bit too direct. we could argue that saying a whole people is less attractive than an other one is highly subjective and a rather stupid thing to say without better explanations. i think with spicy you mean more diverse and colorful?

By spicy and I meant more sexy or more appealing But yeah, come to think about it, this is kind of subjective as personally, I prefer Med types.

For ie, this guy may not be perfect:

but I find him more 'beautiful'/attractive than this guy, who some may find more classically beautiful, or with more regular features:

Me too. :) I find it very astonishing he's considered a symbol of "virility". That's the last way I'd describe him. Although, he was very appealing in a movie I saw recently where he portrayed a German, an intellectual, of the immediate post war period: "Aftermath".

We have some men of that type too, although not in anywhere near the frequency.

    Stefano Casiraghi

Just too "beige" imo for stunning beauty.

Also, sometimes, when features are too regular people can look very "bland" as you say. That's why models often don't have perfectly balanced features. It creates more visual interest.

It may have something to do with facial expressions too. Animation can make even homely people look attractive.

An extremely handsome Frenchman imo: just gorgeous and charming both.

my sister had issue with pelvic floor and was basically given this advice below by a specialist..............she once used mostly flat shoes.....now has 2inch heels ......she has said she has had no issues anymore

Pelvic floor is defined as a collection of muscles and ligaments, whose main functions are supporting pelvic floor organs, assisting in urinary and fecal incontinence and it has a great importance in sexual intercourses as orgasms. Pelvic floor often weaken after giving birth and with menopause.

There are different types of exercises to strengthen and exercises our pelvic floor muscles thus today we are going to talk about a peculiar way to exercise: through the use of heels.
As is well known, specialist advice women against heels at any time due to they have been linked to healthy problems such as backache, knee pain, bunions and arthritis among others. Nevertheless, it has been found that heels can contribute some benefits.
In a study, Dr Maria Cerruto; an Italian urologist, presented the results of her study of 66 women under the age of 50. She found that those who held their foot at a 15 degree angle to the ground (two inch heel) have a good posture and the muscles were at optimum position, which could improve their strength and ability to contract.
“Women often have difficulty in carrying out the right exercises for the pelvic zone and wearing heels could be the solution,” she said. “Like many women, I like high heeled shoes; they make you appear more slender and taller,” she added. “It is good to know they have potential health benefits so we now hope to prove that wearing heels during daily activity may reduce the need for pelvic exercises.”

However, we must emphasize the fact that heels over 4 inches, specially stilettos, are harmful to the back, a risk for twisted ankles and they can damage your pelvic floor. Besides, you cannot walk properly therefore it is not very elegant.
