Living DNA results (I'm German + Lebanese Christian) & I got some interesting results

    Hello Eupedia,
I've always been really curious about my real breakdown as my mother's family is supposedly super German (from South West area) and my Father is Lebanese Christian.

As we all know Lebanon was a place where so many Empires and populations passed through, so I suppose it should not be surprising to find Lebanese families that are not 'all that' "Canaanite/Phoenician".

I took a LivingDNA test and the results were really interesting, I would say weird to some degree.
    Why?
Well because I know they have the ability to test Lebanese people --->
(see this thread ...eupedia [dot][com] /forum/archive/index.php/t-36761.html with a "pure" Lebanese Christian's" results.)

I am quoting his results below:
"All my grandparents are Lebanese (Lebanese Christians).
My LivingDNA autosomal results (complete mode).

    -Near East 73.4%

    • Levant 56.4%
    • Iran 9.3%
    • North Turkey 6.4%
    • South Turkey 1.3%

    - Europe 21.1%

    • Europe (South) 19.8%
    • South Italy 14.2%
    • Aegean 4.5%
    • Sardinia 1.1%
    • Europe (East) 1.3%
    • East Balkans 1.3%

    -Asia (South) 5.5%

    Pashtun 4.3%
    Sindh 1.2%"

And here is me using the same company and I am not seeing anything near the expected result of 50% Germanic and 50% Levantine/Near East.
But rather I'm only seeing 24.7% NearEast and it is apparently not even coming from the Levant like that other Lebanese guy.

Here are my results (Complete & Standard modes yield same results):

    Europe 75.3%

    Europe (South) 47.1%

    South Italy 36.2%

    North Italy 6.3%

    Tuscany 4.6%

    Europe (North and West) 23.7%

    Germanic 23.7%

    Great Britain and Ireland 4.5%

    Scotland and Ireland 4.5%

    Near East 24.7%

    Armenia and Cyprus 21.2%

    Arabia 3.5%

I think this result is causing some confusion for me, because it is sort of saying that both sides of my family have had the Roman Empire impact their families at some point in history? Or LivingDNA just can't analyze people with mixed heritage very well?

Before taking this test I joked with my gf that it would just give up and say I'm Greek due to my mix, but I'm just wondering how much I should really trust this report.

I tried to find some more ideas by using GEDMatch which has resulted in most calculators showing roughly similar percentages in sometimes confusingly labelled pie-charts and saying that for single source populations I'm closest to Italian Abruzzo.

Here is my GEDMatch case file if you guys want to take a stab at it and comment: ND1234145

Thank you all for your ideas and time.

Thank you all for your ideas and time.
from your oracles it seems that your mother is half German, half Basque.

    Using 4 populations approximation:
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    1 French + French_Basque + Iranian_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze @ 5.077260
    2 Iranian_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze + Southwest_English + Spanish_Aragon @ 5.100394
    3 French_Basque + Iranian_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze + West_German @ 5.108472
    4 French_Basque + Iranian_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze + Southeast_English @ 5.133996
    5 French_Basque + Iranian_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze + South_Dutch @ 5.198952
    6 Iranian_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze + Spanish_Aragon + West_Scottish @ 5.293624
    7 Iranian_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze + Southeast_English + Spanish_Aragon @ 5.302558
    8 Kurdish_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze + Southwest_English + Spanish_Aragon @ 5.306282
    9 French_Basque + Kurdish_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze + Southeast_English @ 5.360711
    10 French_Basque + Kurdish_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze + West_German @ 5.420722
    11 French_Basque + Iranian_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze + Southwest_English @ 5.426047
    12 Kurdish_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze + Spanish_Aragon + West_Scottish @ 5.441387
    13 French_Basque + Lebanese_Druze + Lebanese_Druze + West_German @ 5.446012
    14 Kurdish_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze + Southeast_English + Spanish_Aragon @ 5.473887
    15 French + French_Basque + Kurdish_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze @ 5.502025
    16 Assyrian + Lebanese_Druze + Southwest_English + Spanish_Aragon @ 5.509140
    17 French_Basque + Kurdish_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze + South_Dutch @ 5.509535
    18 Iranian_Jewish + Irish + Lebanese_Druze + Spanish_Aragon @ 5.515476
    19 Iranian_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze + Southwest_English + Spanish_Andalucia @ 5.532577
    20 Iranian_Jewish + Lebanese_Druze + Southwest_English + Spanish_Castilla_La_Mancha @ 5.579086

maybe all southwest Germans are like that

LivingDNA is not very accurate and has no specific ability to test Lebanese people.

LivingDNA is also saying that you're only 1/4 German and then the other half of your German ancestry ends up in Europe South.

Your IP says you're in Texas.

Normally, it may be off, if you're in the same general area. But Finland is too far away for this to be the case.

    @Jovialis

They said they’re working on updating everybody’s results all at once:

... CLARIFICATION ON EARLY UPDATE REPORTS
We’ve been testing the new method continuously on old and new chip customers, so that's why some people have had an early update and this is why new chip customers report ‘better results’. Once our method is stable and we have the infrastructure to re-process our entire customer base, we will reprocess everyone. This will happen once the customer portal is redesigned and we can support results versioning and are able to display new regional shapes - so this means you’ll be able to compare your previous results against the updated ones we give you.

I hope this clears up a few questions that you’ve been asking and as soon as I have any other information that will be useful I will share in this group..

That message was from last May, so hopefully they should “soon” be ready for a Major Update.

If he was truly half-German, he would score more on the Northern European component for Dodecad, than his purported GEDmatch kit indicates.

Also, his Atlantic_Mediterranean component is way too high. It is almost at the level of a full-German; when it should be reduced since Lebanese get less than half of that.

This ruse is an abject failure.

You're not of Finnish descent yet you're posting from Texas and are using the Finnish flag. And you seem to have ample respect for this man since you chose him as your username:
    Description

"Alaric I was the first king of the Visigoths from 395–410, son of chieftain Rothestes. He is best known for his sack of Rome in 410, which marked a decisive event in the decline of the Western Roman Empire. Alaric began his career under the Gothic soldier Gainas, and later joined the Roman army"

Thank you Brick for the idea, those oracles had all sorts of random combinations for me, so I wasn't sure what to make of any of it.
I suppose the idea is to get closer to 0 in oracle score to land on a possibility of composure.

That's the goofy thing about this, or rather the surprise.
My mother's family tree has all known people from the South West of Germany and always with German family names as far as we can trace back.
So for me to not see 50% Germanic, but rather see her have West Med. or European South assigned to her is strange.

In terms of testing Lebanese people, the other gentleman whose results I posted, seemed to have gotten an accurate result for a Christian Lebanese, so that sort of gave me hope that LivingDNA can test Lebanese.

Are you aware of other Lebanese cases from LivingDNA that were inaccurate?

I apologize Jovialis, I am simply trying have a sense of humor about my heritage and my test results.
If we are supposed to be super serious on this forum, then I can act accordingly.

I will post a picture of my LivingDNA results, I did not know that was required, as other people seem to not have done so.
I am not a t-roll, I am genuinely seeking advice from this community and mean no offense to anyone.
I live in Finland, if my IP is marked in Texas that is most likely due to my Firefox browser having various extensions like Privacy Badger installed on it.

I am posting from Finland because I live here, when I made an account on this forum, that's the flag that was given to me since it is where I live.
I do not know where this Texan thing came from, probably because of Firefox Privacy Badger extension.

Yes I have great respect for leaders of large achievement like Alaric and Arminius.

The issue is the fact that your results seem fake. You have to provide a screen cap, because of this.

Use Imgur to embed the link, there is no prohibition. I'm not clicking on your dropbox link (nor should anyone else)

    Also,

It doesn't explain why your GEDmatch numbers are off.

Okay I'll get back to you with an Imgur link.
That's exactly why I'm coming to this forum, I am trying to understand my family's heritage on both sides.
All that I keep seeing in GEDMatches is telling me that my mom's German family must be half something else and my Dad apparently is not all that Lebanese as he thinks.

Okay let's try to get this image posting thing straightened out, I'll not use dropbox again, sorry for the weird interaction there.

I hope this works now, I added 3 pics to that imgur post.

Okay Eupedia says I need to post 3 more times before I can post any links or embed any images.
So please don't mind the filler posts I will do now.

I see the links when searching for just the imgur.com/xxxxx

Still doesn't explain the Gedmatch results, which is highly dubious.

I don't know what to say, I simply downloaded the autosomal results from LivingDNA and uploaded them on GEDMatch as well as yourDNAportal and I am getting results that say to me both my mom and dad are not as German or Lebanese as they think.

If anyone has some further commentary, I would of course appreciate it.

Thanks and have a good day everyone!

some Austrians get a result like "Ukrainian+Spanish" on the oracles on gedmatch. very little Germanic influence.
so it's completely possible that your mother from Southeast Germany gets shown as "French Basque+West German"

    this is you
    13 French_Basque + Lebanese_Druze + Lebanese_Druze + West_German @ 5.446012

so you are like 50% Lebanese Druze, and 50% Southeast German (which gets shown as 25% West German, 25% French Basque)

How do you explain the inconsistency of his components on the gedmatch spreadsheets, to his alleged ancestry? It isn't adding up.

Someone that is 50% east Asian and 50% irish, would probably plot with Indians. It doesn't mean they're composed of the same source populations.
