Cure for lupus through genetic engineering?

If true, and replicable in humans, it would be a God send, and perhaps for a whole host of autoimmune disorders, but reports are starting to filter out of unexpected results from messing with genetics. The alleles are so intertwined, that I doubt you can change one without unintentionally creating unexpected consequences.
