The dodecad K12b in its present state puts me MUCH closer to the ancient samples, and it's a very different order as well.

so Salento is more exacting as it is a certain area of puglia?

I’m exacting :unsure:LOL

my results pinpointed to Salento.

I noticed that the Grugni “Region” Data is different than the one in the Calculator.
... now it all gets complicated.

Solutions?
Averaging the Regions, maybe?

We're like two halves of a coin, Duarte. :) You don't get the Proto-Villanovan, but we get the same IA Antonio et al samples; it's just we alternate as to whom is closer. You even get North Italians in your first 25, while I have to wait for number 38 to get my first Iberian sample.

There's something about the Portuguese/Galicians and the Italians, or you have an unknown Italian ancestor. :)

ˆˆHi Angela. Happy NY.
I think there must be an ancestral connection of Italians and Galicians. My maternal great-grandfather was a Portuguese immigrant from the historical region of Portugal called "Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro", northern border of Portugal and bordering southern Galicia.
Cheers :)

Of my 10 closest samples at least 6 are IA, and my nearest non-Iberian place in G25 is North Italia (Lombardia). It doesn't seem to be something weird in Spain.
Edit: I've noticed that it's from another calculator, well it's the same. :ashamed2:

IIRC, o_italians means other italians, that is italians who lived in ciuntries which had italians for centuries, like bordering italy with france, swiss, austria, slovenia croatia

So you could be swiss-italian as an exampl

G25 map of what, Juan? The dark red hot spot is indeed right over Emilia and perhaps bleeding into the Lunigiana.

I was talking about the K12b. In that one Duarte gets Italians in his first 25. I usually get Spaniards all the time in the oracles, although I get Northern Italians and Tuscans first, and Balkan peoples are sprinkled throughout as well. They're here too, but not in the first 25.

Perhaps it does have something to do with Galicia. Or perhaps it's what this map calls "Old Castille", and perhaps a bit of Aragon.

I've said before how much I liked Catalonia, but in Spain proper, these were my favorite cities: Burgos, Segovia, Avila, Toledo, Zaragoza. I liked Pamplona too, although it's not the same province; went twice for the bullfights. Blame it on Hemingway.:) They were also the areas where I thought the people looked most "Italian".

@stuvane,
I've noticed before you don't get 1015 and 1016. Maybe too "western"???

so Salento is more exacting as it is a certain area of puglia?

I’m changing my answer: maybe not!

Ancestry and 23 raw-data give different results for Salento e Puglia.

... Puglia went up and Salento went down.

never mind.

Zaragoza of course used to be the Roman city of Caesaraugusta. :)

Interesting maps:

Note where the Roman villas were located. So, not just Baetica by any means, although that's where we have a lot of remains from that time period.

Conquista-Romana-de-Hispania.jpg

The first legions were full of men from that area, so maybe that explains it? Maybe they settled? Just speculating, of course.

For the hot spot area, first were the Neolithic people, then the Liguri and Etruschi (Golasecca somewhere in there as well, perhaps before the "Liguri" and "Etruschi"?), then the Galli, and then the "Latini". Parma was founded by Romans in 183 BCE.

Given the history of Illyrians in Puglia, I was a bit surprised to see that Apulians didn't get closer fits, at least according to MTA. Though I believe culturally (and genetically), the people there were very Greek influenced. I recall reading that the Messapi had projected their power onto the other Iapygian Tribes, so perhaps they were the real Illyrian-derived people? It is very murky to me. Nevertheless, me and Salento, are almost genetic twins, so perhaps the impact did not last to be so significant? idk.
