Nobody knows, but possibly a language that is now extinct that was a cousin language of PIE.

Carlos is full of crap. The MRCA of M417 lived far too far to the south and west of where the Uralic Urheimat was-indeed, the westernmost scientific urheimat is the Volga Bend area, which is hundreds of miles to the northeast of Sredny Stog and the first two R1a samples in Vasiliyevka and Dereivka in southeastern Ukraine. His Uralic from the west hypothesis is just as unscientific as Celtic from the west.

I don't think it's as unlikely as you say. Places where R1a is more common than Rib has more pre-Yamnaya EHG ancestry. Most likely there was already R1a in Eastern Europe before steppe breeding and they probably didn't speak IE

In Western Europe where R1b predominates, Yamanya also predominates without deviating to EHG

In this and many other threads, the assumption is that when R1a and R1b mutated some 20,000ya they also divided into separate tribes and recombined on the Steppe 7,000 ya to become PIE, from which they split by various founder effects. Could it be that they remained mixed whilst migrating from Central Asia to the Steppes

likely turkish,proto-turks

And? There's R1b in Villabrana and Baltic Hunter gatherers? They didn't speak IE. However, nobody's claiming that R1b is not related to PIE because that's not the source of most R1b. THe steppe is and the same applies to R1a.
