I stumbled on the Trump Surname Project at FTDNA. There are only 4 members, all from different countries and belonging to different haplogroups. Donald Trump's ancestor came from Rhineland-Palatine in Germany.

The only German member belongs to [strike]R1b-Z2103>Y10789, a haplogroup which is otherwise found in Italy, Spain, Portugal and throughout the Balkans.[/strike]
=> EDIT : The haplogroup is in fact R1b-U106>L48>Z9>Z325>BY20693

In Germany, the Trump family name is found mostly along the old borders of the Roman Empire (the Limes Germanicus). If this is correct, then the Trump family could be descended from Roman legionaries posted on the Limes Germanicus, as that haplogroup was found among ancient Italics and has a distribution that looks Roman.

As I can see the kit no 187749 is confirmed R-BY20693, this subclade is under R-U106, he does not belong to haplogroup common for Balkans.

Sorry. Mea culpa. I googled R-BY20693 and the first result was the Yfull page for R-Y10789 (under Z2103), so I assumed it was a synonymous SNP. After double checking BY20693 is not in the Yfull database at all! You are completely right, BY20693 is downstream of U106. The phylogeny is as follows:

R1b-U106>Z2265>BY30097>Z381>Z301>L48>Z9>S1743>S505>Z326>Z8168>FGC10367>Z319>Z8172>Z325>S1734>FGC564>BY20693

This branch is found in Germany, Belgium, northern France, Poland and parts of Britain. I have one Belgian relative who is confirmed until Z325.

You are aware that he changed his surname from Trumpf to sound more anglo-saxon?
