Benjamin Franklin, a polymath and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, whose head has featured on the $100 bills since 1914, is a probable member of haplogroup R1b-U106>Z18>DF95 according to the results from the Franklin Family Y-DNA Project. His family hailed from the small village of Ecton in Northamptonshire, England. Searching the genealogy of various project members, this family corresponds FY03 group, who all share the same haplotype. Running it into Nevgen's haplogroup predictor the clade resulted in R1b-U106>Z18>DF95 with 100% confidence.

The Z18 clade originated in the Nordic Bronze Age (1700-500 BCE). It spawned many branches, which expanded to Germany, the Low Countries, France and Poland during the Iron Age and in Roman times. DF95 is a rare subclade. Apart from England, this clade is found in western Germany and the Netherlands.
