It may come as a shock to many of you, but one European country has already banned the sales of new petrol/diesel cars this year: Austria.

Wikipedia keeps a list of countries that plan to phase-out of fossil fuel vehicles.

After Austria, it is Norway who is going to follow suit in 2025. The transition shouldn't be too hard as 56% of new cars sold in 2019 were already electric.

In 2030, India, Israel, Germany, Slovenia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland are all going to ban the sales of non-electric cars. This is generally for new cars, but in India, Germany and the Netherlands, that will apply to all cars (even second hand ones).

In 2040, Canada, France, Spain, Taiwan, Singapore, Sri Lanka and even Egypt will also ban the sales of petrol/diesel cars.

China is working on a deadline, but already is the biggest EV car market in the world and growing fast.
