Following the discovery of several human skeletons, experts visited the area to analyse the bones, which date from the period between the Neolithic and Chalcolithic ages.
“We have found elements such as stone axes, ceramics, some flint sheets and a copper ax, which allowed us to date these burials to the Chalcolithic. It would be people with certain power, since copper was an expensive material at the time.”

A LARGE PREHISTORIC NECROPOLIS
According to the archaeologists, the surface reconnaissance that has been done in the Piedras de Mitra area suggests that there are other shelters or hollows that were very possibly used as burial places in prehistoric times, which "would confirm the site as a large necropolis of that period," says Andrés Fernández.
