K12b Eupedia Ancient Ethnicities Checker: reliably compare your DNA to ancient populations

for some context: Norman Kings were born in my town (Lecce, Salento, Puglia), and there are towns founded by the Normans,
on the Two Way top results, as my secondary group, I don’t get a gradual northerly shift, … it goes to Scandinavia bypassing Central Europe.

My Genomelink Viking index is more or less inline with my Two Way top results. It also shows a similar cline, I am more closely related to northern (Scandinavian) Vikings than southern.

… actually they've been in Puglia for a few generations, the last Norman King of Sicily was Tancred of Lecce.

To change the subject, where exactly do the North_Italian and Tuscan HGDP samples come from? Bergamo? Florence?

To change the subject, where exactly do the North_Italian and Tuscan HGDP samples come from? Bergamo? Florence?

I've answered this many times before. According to CEPH coordinates, North Italian HGDP = Bergamo HGDP (North Italian HGDP and Bergamo HGDP are the same thing, it's a set of 13/14 individuals), and the coordinates point to Seriana Valley (Val Seriana in Bergamo province), so Prealps. According to CEPH coordinates Tuscan HGDP (a set of 8 individuals) points to Colline Metallifere in Grosseto province, so southern-western Tuscany.

@Torzio … they were not passing-by riders, but settlers.

… The discovery that traces of Viking DNA are still present today in the Apulian population …

… The Normans, a population of Viking descent, settled in Puglia during the Middle Ages …

All these results are really good, but I have absolutely no idea how to 'translate' them wrt what is shows of my ancestry, if anything.

So, looking at my results in the post above - how should I read how they describe or define 'me'?

I have started calculating the K12b average of populations tested by Patterson et al. 2021. There are over 800 genomes so it's going to take time.

Hallstatt was succeeded by La Tène. The La Tène expansion took over the whole of Gaul, but the samples here are from Austria, Czechia, Slovakia and Hungary. Yet they are genetically almost identical to modern Belgians. It's not surprising as the geographic origins of the La Tène culture ranged from Alsace to Belgium, along the Rhine and Meuse valleys.

Neat.

Would be interesting to use the AC-BC mode on Vahaduo to see which component would be needed to shift said population where it is, in reference to a) the modern people living in the territory of the abovementioned cultures b) the modern populations scoring the highest in the above models.

interesting that the modern central europeans aren't closer. is this because those regions are nowadays more southern/eastern shifted or maybe because those samples are only from the elite of that time while the common people were different?

Using the new data, I ran both my mother's results and my own. She is entirely British Isles, specifically, half Irish and half Yorkshire ancestry. Her closest match is Lombards, followed closely by Roman Britain. My father is 100% Calabrian, but doesn't deign to have his DNA tested. I of course am a mix of the two parents.
