Those of you who have watched The Big Bang Theory and its spin-off prequel Young Sheldon will remember that the main character, Sheldon Cooper, is a boy genius with an IQ of 187 who started college at the tender age of 11 and graduated at 14 in physics. Well Sheldon was beaten by Laurent Simons, an 11-year-old boy who earned a physics degree at Antwerp University. Not only that, but he graduated with a higher distinction than all other students with 85%, which is the highest distinction.

The story made it to Newsweek. The Flemish boy is the world's second youngest graduate behind Michael Kearney, who received his degree in anthropology from the University of South Alabama in 1994 aged 10. I am sure that Sheldon in the TV series would have commented that anthropology wasn't a real science and that the University of South Alabama was a second-rate school (he who even looked down on MIT).

Anyway, congrats to Laurent!
