Comparative Y-chromosome analysis among Cypriots in the context of historical events and migrations

Y-chromosome analysis provides valuable information regarding the migration patterns of male ancestors, ranging from the Paleolithic age to the modern humans. STR and SNP genotyping analysis provides data regarding the genetic and geographical ancestry of the populations studied. This study focused on the analysis of the Y-chromosome in Maronite Cypriots and Armenian Cypriots, who came to the island as a result of different historical events. The aim was to provide information on the paternal genetic ancestry of Maronites and Armenians of Cyprus and investigate any affinity with the Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots of the island.

There is another T-PH110 ................only other place I seen these is Bhutan, Armenia and Germany.

The Maronites .........what is there part in the Armenian kingdom of Cilicia.

Interesting paper thanks for sharing :cool-v:The sample is small
57 maronite cypriot
56 armenian cypriot
:)
highest haplogroup in all groups is j2a -L559:wink:
But still
E-m123 is 21% in maronite cypriot( probably some founder event) but
Only 1.79% in armenian cypriot...

P.s
I wouldnt be so surprised
If maronites mixed with greek cypriot
To some extent ..
That might explain also the significant
13% e-m123 in greek cypriots

In S2 table in the supplemental
They also present
Next to the assigned confirmed haplogroup
The predicted gaplogroup by negven
And mistake is only 5% not bad..

If negven predictor: is correct there are
6 E-L791 and
6 E-m84 ( 5 e-pf6751+1 e-y5435)

Many Armenians were settled in Cyprus from Central Anatolia. Look at the genetic diversity between Armenian and Armenian_Hemshen they are a little bit different. I wonder if Central-Anatolian Armenians that were mostly killed by the Turks, could've been more Western Shifted towards Greek Central Anatolians.

Luckily Some were able to escape
The ottoman genocide ...
There are armenians in france and usa
And most armenian americans
Are originally from east central anatolia
If i would have to guess i say they would
Cluster autosomally also with assyrians rather
Than pontic greeks ...
It is possible hemsheni armenians
Mixed with some pontic greeks
Or they both have huge west asian component
So there is overlapp

P.s
I dont know when armenians arrived to cyprus
Though if we go back to this paper
Maybe in byzantine time:unsure:
