Hi everyone,

I just took a 23andme DNA test, and found that my haplogroup is I-Y7140 (I1).
It looks rather uncommon in France. My paternal ancestry traces back to a laboureur who lived in Franche-Comté, near the Champagne border, in the 17th century, although there is slight possibility he may have come from western France (Anjou).

So, do I have some haplogroupic cousins in here ? Do you think my paternal ancestry should be traced back to a Frank/Burgundian migration ?

Hi there , I am a fellow I-Y7140+ person. I have been following Y6900+ subclades for several years now and from what I have discerned is that Y6900+ subclades emanate from North German territory (Anglo Saxon heartlands) around 2000+ years ago and from there have spread in all directions via sea & river travel including down the Atlantic coast from Netherlands , France & down to Spain as well as via the Rhine River from Northern Germany down to Switzerland . There is a subclade on Yfull at I-A5672 which has members in Bern Switzerland which could be where you connect. Advice is for you to test further at FTDNA via Big Y or similar to see if you are connected via this branch or a new branch.

Thanks for you answer.

There are actually people in Switzerland who share my family name. I wish one day they'd make some tests, it will be very helpful, officialy we're not related but it's still highly possible.
