I believe I may have recovered a neolithic religious star ceremony at Silbury Hill. The ceremony would probably have taken place around the spring equinox, and consisted of the three stars of Orion's Belt being seen to unite with the flat top of Silbury Hill. The spectators would have stood on the plain to the NNE of the HIll on the surrounding plain, with Waden Hill forming a natural backstop.
Others have suspected a link between Orion and Avebury, but I am deeply struck by the exact correlation between the apparent size of the 3 belt stars and the width and orientation of Silbury's flat top. The fit is highly suggestive, and I speculate that the young Silbury would have appeared chalk white in the moonlight with the 3 belt stars hovering over and parallel with the flat hill top.
