In that regard, the Temple of Apollo was adjoining his residence. The Senate met often in the section of the palace near it, and that was also the location of the library. Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer, as they say.
It's all much more beautiful than it used to be portrayed, now that the archaeologists have the technology to decipher the colors of the different types of marble etc.
I particularly like the chariot with four horses on the roof; reminds me of the horses of St. Mark's in Venice, stolen from Constantinople, after the west destroyed the last of the Roman Empire.
The golden bulls are really the only rather ostentatious and vulgar part of the complex.
