Imagine that. Put both Ancient G25 Individual and Modern G25 Individual. And still the oldest L283 in the Balkans shows up in my closest samples, from ancient and moderns. If anyone was to comment on this I know what they would say, and I know my retort to it, but that's besides the point.

Ps. I have noticed a lot among Italians and Greeks, there is this thinking that Albanians are similar to South Italians, or that South Albanians are closer to Greeks than North Albanians. Time and time again I have heard this in various fora, and even other mediums. That is very wrong. Everytime I see samples and analyze them Albanians if anything have similar autosomal to Tuscans/Piedmontese samples, strangely in multiple calculators even Swiss Italians. While at the same time South Albanians do not have a closer affinity to Greeks than North Albanians. If anything even Kosovars on multiple calculators have among the closest matches Mainland Greeks. Am not sure where and why such false narratives took hold, but maybe due to Geography or phenotype based stereotypes?

Disclaimer: Found out after some analysis that I23208 is not the L283, the L283 is in fact MOK15.

The Han is very interesting. Comes up in most sophisticated calculators. It is too much to be noise. Sometimes as is this case it comes out as Far East Asian. If it was Roma ancestry it would be South East Asian ancestry. If it was Mongo it would be central Asian like. Rather after some analysis I did years ago it seems of Yellow River BA Farmer stock. But on other calculators it is split into two equal .8 parts, of South Amerian Natives and Papuan... My current hypothesis is it was some Siberian HG rich population, the only thing that could explain all three vectors. In fact Siberian 8k+ yo populations yielded good models when I last played with them. So did Motala Sweden 6-8kya.

The other interesting part is PPNB. Not sure if other Albos have this too, but I guess this is why some older calculators assign me Jewish pops in the two way calculation. I looked into my Y and autosomal matches, but my Y is not the Cohanim L283 line responsible for some 1/5-1/4 of modern Cohanims, neither do I have Ashkenazi/Sephardic matches on FTDNA.

Would be interested to check your results with the same calc for comparison.

Either I had some very early Jewish ancestors, but that would not explain the high 12% component given autosomal dilution, otherwise if it was withing the last 4-5 generations certainly I would have autosomal Shepardic or Ashkenazi matches. But at the same time 12% is too much to be a relic of the calculator. My only other guess is overfitted model, which is the likeliest. But given how much further north I plot autosomaly, it is quite interesting that I would need 12% PPNB to get an overfit model.

Nice to see your models also similarly reproduce some of my past research. As you can see South China Neolithic Farmer / Tibetan Plateau and Australian Aborigines on one hand and Scandinavian / Baltic HG on the other hand. The reason they pop up I think is the models/current sample database lacking the appropriate component to explain the 1.8% (North)East Asian like component, and overcompensating by overfitting with whatever it can. I might never know if my guess of some ~10kyo Siberian HG is correct, but that seems the only common denominator. If one keeps playing with the coordinates, you can get hermetic South American Natives + Australian Natives (or Papuans) to explain it away, personally had a lot of fun researching the genetic diversity and historical hypotheses for isolated tribes (North/South America/Austronesia), quite the rabbit hole.

If i recall Tepecif_Ciftlik is EEF with some CHG/Iranian farmer/Levantine affinities, so more eastern Anatolian EEF let's say.

That's certainly not true, farming didn't came from the East via Zagros/Iranian farmers who are better known for the domestication of goat but rather came as an idea from the South Natufians/PPNB.

I don't think he said that. He just meant before the push west, millennia ago pre pre-Proto-IE J was around that area. I am not sure though whether J was part of the farming stock. IIRC Minoans were G2a which would have been the farmer stock. Can't recall if there was J2a among them. But certainly Myceneans were a mix of G2a and J2a. Imagine that. Put both Ancient G25 Individual and Modern G25 Individual. And still the oldest L283 in the Balkans shows up in my closest samples, from ancient and moderns. If anyone was to comment on this I know what they would say, and I know my retort to it, but that's besides the point.

Ps. I have noticed a lot among Italians and Greeks, there is this thinking that Albanians are similar to South Italians, or that South Albanians are closer to Greeks than North Albanians. Time and time again I have heard this in various fora, and even other mediums. That is very wrong. Everytime I see samples and analyze them Albanians if anything have similar autosomal to Tuscans/Piedmontese samples, strangely in multiple calculators even Swiss Italians. While at the same time South Albanians do not have a closer affinity to Greeks than North Albanians. If anything even Kosovars on multiple calculators have among the closest matches Mainland Greeks. Am not sure where and why such false narratives took hold, but maybe due to Geography or phenotype based stereotypes?

Very trivially: people superficially look at where Albania is geographically located, and since it's so close to Puglia they think their respective peoples also occupy similar genetic positions. But it's one of those cases where latitude travels on its own in relation to DNA (perhaps in Antiquity there were more similarities...). We have also understood how certain forums and discussions on the web work, where delirium reigns supreme, without ever a shred of will to document and reason

Southern Italy has a very important ancient/Hellenistic and perhaps even more archaic 'Greek' contribution that attracts it quite significantly towards the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean, a presence that fades and diminishes a lot as you go north along the Peninsula.


Something similar happens to the Balkans, but in its continental belts there is clearly not the same massive classical Greek presence as in Southern Italy - I don't think it is even remotely comparable as a demographic phenomenon - and furthermore I'm now quite convinced that the pre-Slavic Paleobalkan DNA probably proceeds from the same predecessor nucleus from which some Italic or proto-Italic groups would have originated, whose genetic signal seems to have been better preserved in northern/central Italy.


Hence this genetic similarity, offset with respect to geographical latitude :)

If i remember it correctly, J2a was the most frequent Minoan Y-DNA followed by G2a.
