I-S1954 - I1a2a1a1a
Hello,

I was assigned I-S1954 on 23andme and later confirmed with othe ydna analysis tools that I'm I1a2a1a1a/YSC261.

My fathers family is originally from Munsterland, Westfalen, Germany.

Where did I inherit this particular branch of Z140 ? And what are it's origins ? Anglo Saxon, Danish etc ?

On ancestrydna, the ancestry composition came out to England and northwestern Europe, germanic europe, sweden and denmark and eastern Scotland.

Hi there. As much as there are still many mysteries yet to solve for I1, the Z140 clades are generally showing themselves to be North Sea-centric in origin since at least the Iron Age. Distinctly possible that they all did originate in Southern Scandinavia during the Nordic Bronze Age. With each new year, exciting new ancient dna discoveries are revealing the true I1 founder story. DNA YSC261 is very well represented in the UK & Ireland (even more so than Germany). You can view where known ftdna testers ancestry originate>> unfortunately I can't link you ftdna or Yfull ( as I haven't made 20 posts yet....) but the data is quite informative
welcome aboard

That's really interesting. So even though my fathers paternal ancestry is deeply rooted in the Munsterland area of Westfalen, Germany, I still inherited a well represented English & Irish sub clade ? My relatives that still live in Germany still see their area as Saxon country.
I'll see if I can upload some of my data.
But thank you very much for replying !!

Also, I just saw your Australian? I'm half Australian . My dad's family was German, they were Hollandgangers ( seasonal workers in Holland from Germany) had a few families in Holland, then jumped ship to Australia. But I and my family were born and raised in Canada.

I can't upload attachments yet, but here is a copy and paste from another site. ( Ycladefinder)

Available Panels
YSEQ recommends the I1-Z140 Panel Predicted I-YSC261 is downstream of the panel root. This panel may be applicable if it tests subclades below I-YSC261. Please verify and check with YSEQ customer support.

Next best prediction (scored 101 compared to 102) I-Z2535

Hope this is of any help.

Great to hear from an Aussie Canadian Dutch German! I am a fellow Z140+guy (diff branch A196) via my dad from Czechia to Australia post war. My recommendation would be to go for the Z140+ snp panel at ftdna or fork out that bit extra for Big Y (when on sale) which will get you right to the highest amount of accuracy of terminal haplotype/group you need now & into the future for when your genetic cousins start testing & matching you. That's when it gets exciting. On Yfull they have your Y15155/A1944 * Y300657(H) formed 2900 ybp, TMRCA 2900 ybp.Good luck and be sure to share your results whenever you decide to test further.
