Ouch Greece you came so close to regaining your ancient territory...blame the Brits...

As if Greeks were descendants of Ancient Greeks.

Constantinople was named after Constantine the Great the Roman emperor. The Constantine is Latin not Greek and initially Latin was the franca lingua. With time Greek took her place but it's citizens considered themselves as Romans not Greeks which persisted through the Ottoman rule. The empire was know as the Roman Empire not the Byzantine. The term Byzantine was coined after the end of the realm. Modern Greeks are decanted from these Romans which were simply Christians that were living in the area of Greece and modern Turkey. Many of them didn't speak Greek but Turkish, Slavic, Aromanian and Albanian.

ΑΛΗΘΩΣ True

Also due to christianity and the hunt of pagans the term Hellenas (Greek) was synonym to pagan and non believer

Early East Roman empire had 2+1 +1 + 2 languages Latin Greek and Persian in East and Thracian in Balkans with Semitic, Hebrew and Arabic also exist, maybe Scythian in some parts.
By time remain only latin and Greek in European part and Greek only in East, probably after Islam expansion

much after appear Slavic Albanian and Turks

they have a lot og ancient greek dna.
I think that Albanian (or Illyrian) mountain peoples came Greece and Macedonia and assimilated Greek Culture and Hellenized. I think that sizeable percentage of today's Greeks E-V13 descent from this people.

Ancient greeks had e-v13 too and no one can say the opossite.According to my research, albanian dna in greece is about 5-12% and slavic 10-15%

Some corrections. Latin was not the lingua franca in the East Med. Latin was the administrative language of the East Roman empire at first. It didn't really catch on. So the Greek language, the actual lingua franca, replaced it as an administrative language as well.

Constantinople was founded by Greeks as Byzantium and was eventually renamed after a Roman, Constantine. When it became the capital of the Eastern Roman empire, it was settled by Greeks en masse. The modern Greeks are the offspring of the Romans (Byzantines). They could have easily called themselves that way upon building their modern state (Greece). On the other hand, they were never really Roman were they? They were essentially Greeks who became Roman citizens. The West never stopped referring to them as Greeks, for good reason.

Then from who are we descended??

"We're all Christ's" .
You figure out the details yourself .

Boy there are Fallmayers everywhere and in different eras. Greeks were always welcoming to non-natives. They had colonies all over the place in which they mix with the natives. Artisans came to Athens from all over the known world and mixed with the natives.

As far as the Albanians/Arvanites and the Vlachs they were pretty insular communities for the longest time. They maintained their linguistic, cultural and land holdings within their communities until the 1930s when they started intermarrying with the Greek speakers. In the 1960s there were Arvatites in the town where I was born that spoke only Arvanitika. Now of course the situation is completely different and the different communities intermix with wild abandon.

They assimilated some natives in the zones they colonized but they were not a multiethnic West Asian civilization as some would imply. Assimilation of some Thracians in Thrace or some Anatolians in Anatolia is nothing special.
Many civilizations did the same.

Modern Greeks are indeed descended from ancient Greeks, and eastern Peloponnesians and Maniot are the closest of all.

Yes this is true

a) The official language of the eastern roman empire was Greek since 600 CE when Heraclius established the change from latin and also kept the title Vasileus ( king in greek) instead of Caesar.
b) The greek language is the oldest european language which has never ceased to be spoken (unlike e.g Hebrew which had to be reconstructed ) in the greek peninsula ( and in greek inhabiting enclaves from anatolia to modern ukraine to sicily and south italy e.g griego)
c) The inhabitants of the eastern roman empire were refering to themselves as romioi to signify that the empire was the rightful continuation of the roman empire ( after the fall of rome to the barbarians) and not the francs, holy roman empire etc.
d) The west ( whether it was the italian city/states of genova, venice or the francs, the holy roman empire) was always refering to the eastern roman empire as the kingdom of the greeks. E.g in the 4th crusade and the sack of Konstantinopole the
e) Every modern genetic study in the highest impact factor journals ( and even in the commercial dna companies) shows that the greeks are the direct descendants of the ancient greek inhabitants. Something which is expected as there never was population replacement ( e.g like in the US or australia) or mass migration in the greek peninsula. The slavic ( which are essentially balkan and not slavic in any other way that language) albanian or aromanian admixture is less than 10%.

More or less true... the shift from Latin to Greek by Heraclius/Iraklios wasn't actually this major official change like some think. Greek had already been the de facto dominant language in the east since the start and I don't think there was like official legislation passed to change it. They just started changing it on the coins and the title of the emperors, and began also conducting court business and legislation in Greek, but it was a gradual process.

Constantinople was known to have suffered some great population losses due to plague and war, and had to be partly replaced by mainland Greeks in the middle Byzantine period.

Westerners did seem to refer to the empire as Greekland or some variation of that, yes.

Regarding the Slavs, I mostly agree but apparently there is an interestingly (relatively) higher amount of the Slavic clade of R1a around Thessaloniki and Macedonia for some reason, and there was known to be some Slav settlement in the region in medieval times. Some had to have become assimilated due to the dominant Greek culture, although there are a few today even that kept their language. They didn't seem to make much of an impact at all on the Peloponnese from their time there though. I think many of those were deported off to Anatolia at some point. Still it's barely worth mentioning overall.

This is also true though. The ethnic situation during the Byzantine empire was more complex than some might think on a surface level. Others gradually became assimilated into the mainstream Greek cultural linguistic sphere over time. And yes the identity was that of Roman, not "Hellenic" (until rather late). Hellene was an identity associated with the old pre-Christian pagan past, and Byzantines were a deeply religious people in their identity. Toward the last few centuries of the empire, especially under the Crusader rule, there were some early stirrings of a vague Hellenic identity, but it really didn't take off until later into the Ottoman period and especially the romantic nationalist movements of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Also fascinating is the survival of some form of isolated paganism in the Maniotes until the middle Byzantine period.
