There is new research article, "R1a frequency, subclades and origin of Croats and South Slavs" (PDF at Academia.edu).

In the Eupedia's article Haplogroup R1a (Y-DNA) are made several outdated and erroneous claims:

Regional disparities also exist in ex-Yugoslavia, but among deeper clades. Bosnian and Serbian R1a belongs for the most part to a young clade of CTS1211 (Y33>CTS8816>Y3300>Y5647>YP611>YP3987>YP3992 subclade; TMRCA 950 years), with a minority of older M458 (CTS11962>L1029 subclade; TMRCA 2200 years) and Z92 (Y4459>YP617 subclade; TMRCA 3400 years). Croatian R1a falls almost exclusively within CTS1211, but to another clade (Y35>CTS3402>Y2613>Y2608 subclade, TMRCA 1950 years), with a small minority of YP340>P278.2 (TMRCA 2100 years). The R1a-Y3300 (aka L1280) found in Serbia and Bosnia seems to have expanded from Poland via Hungary during the early medieval period. The Croatian R1a-Y2608 also expanded from Poland during the same period, but via Czechia, Slovakia, Austria and Slovenia.

- There exist regional disparities, but they are more local and not so much on national how much on general Southwestern vs Southeastern level.
- In all, aside Bulgarian, South Slavic nations the R-CTS1211 makes the majority of R1a. In some it is a predominant clade (up to 80% share).
- Bosnian and Herzegovinian and especially Serbian R1a or R-CTS1211 does not belong at all for the most part to I-L1280>Y5647. This information must have been extracted from a very limited, biased and old data. It reaches high concentration only in the population of Tuzla (Northeastern Bosnia). Generally in Bosnia and Herzegovina probably makes one of the most frequent subclades, but is needed further sampling of regions and ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina. None of 5 Herzegovinian Croat samples belonged to it. Population of Serbia does not have the most frequent subclade but several with similar or same percentages, and in the Western Balkans Serbs the I-L1280>Y5647 was zero. R-L1029 makes the vast majority of R-M458. R-Y4459 is not specific for these two nations neither in such percentages to be specifically noted among others as exist subclades with higher percentage (R-Y2613, R-Y2902, YP953, YP4278...).
- Croatian R1a or R-CTS1211 is not almost exlusively & for the most part R-Y2613>Y2608 at all. It is the second (c. 25%) most frequent subclade after R-Y2902 (27%), followed by R-YP343 (mostly YP371 not P278.2) and R-L1280 (peaks in Central and Eastern Croatia) which all together make 75-85% of their R-CTS1211.
- I-L1280>Y5647's sample location among West and East Slavs and South Slavs shows it is at least partly Southeastern Slavic subclade (with another high peak in Romania) which partly or mostly migrated along Eastern Carpathians to the Eastern Balkans and not only via Poland-Hungary.
- Croatian lineages, including R-Y2613, mainly expanded from the Western Ukraine and Southeastern Poland (Eastern Carpathians) through Pannonia (Hungary) not via Moravian Gate.
