Archaeologists have uncovered a 7th century dynastic mausoleum in Pavia, Italy, built by the Lombard King Aripert I.
More than twenty burial sites from the Early Middle Ages have been found, probably reserved for individuals of high social status.
The remains will be analysed to study the ancient DNA, to find out whether the individuals were local or had connections to populations from Northern Europe, which seems more likely since it is a royal mausoleum.
