In using this free tool I noticed that I had 5cM match for three references:

Loschbour, LUX, 8ky, (two segments larger than 5 cM); ESP16 Esperstedt, GER, 2,500 BC; and 04 Oakington, Cambs., ENG, 400-545 AD.

And one with 6cM - Bichon, SWI, 13,700 BP.

What is going on here? Are not the distances too far for segments this large?

In reading Flex's blog he seems confused as well (links below). "I am not sure what to make of these matches who match with a 8000 years old ancient DNA. Could the sample be contaminated? Is the sample really ancient? I don't know for sure. These matches raises lot of questions than answers. Let me know what you think."

More information on ancient DNA is at

Any answers and how to interpret this?

I have no checked knowledge about this, but since a long time I wonder if all segments of our chromosomes have the very same ability to break and recombine? I 'll try to find something on this subject.

From my experience with DNA matching for genealogy, there are some chromosome segments, known as "sticky segments", that are resistant to splicing. I have one segment on chromosome one (110-155M) that I have dozens of matches for, many in the range 15-25cM. Most of these matches only match me on this one segment and their family trees suggest that they are not related to me.
