This just shows the difference of open-mindedness between Belgians and Muslims from around the world who protested violently when they learned about cartoons of Mohammed in Denmark and France. In this case, only high authorities of the Catholic Church expressed disapproval, and that was just for the form.

Catholic bishops in Belgium have protested against a TV ad depicting Jesus as a pot-bellied hippy picking up half-naked women in a nightclub.

The TV advertisement shows a long-haired hippy Jesus grooving along as he tries to get into a nightclub and is refused entry by the bouncers.

Jesus makes the sign of the cross and sweeps aside the bouncers, shrinking them so they are left in his wake as dwarves.

This Plug TV version of Jesus then drinks whisky at the bar and magically turns two brown haired frumpy women into blonde babes wearing bikini tops and red horns like devils.

The Jesus character then disappears into a huge limousine with the women but his attention is distracted by an advertisement for Plug TV before he is recalled by God who is standing on a cloud, wearing a T shirt with "Number one dad" written on it.

The God figure tells Jesus off for wanting to watch Plug TV as well as everything else - saying "you still want more".

Incidentally, Plug TV is part of the RTL Group, Europe's largest TV company.

The Christian establishment was once like that. As under Sharia law, clerics enforced law and punishments in Europe. Most of us consider it a positive social evolution that has led Europe and in most respects the USA toward an enlightened secularism which endeavors to keep government and religion separate.

Islamic thinking is similar to that of the Christian world 800 years ago. Let's hope they'll also evolve, and the sooner the better, because as it is they are increasingly demanding (and in Europe often getting) public accomodations to their religion which if attempted for Christianity in the USA would cause all kinds of trouble.

One advantage to such demands made by Muslims in the USA is that it will wake people up to the danger of creeping religion in government, and perhaps more aware of the same danger posed by homegrown Christian fundamentalists who also have not yet managed to transcend Medieval thinking.

That's an excellent point. American Muslims could try to claim the same religious rights or benefits as in Europe (such as using tax-payers' money to build mosques), then try to infiltrate the government (et a few Muslim senators elected) and change things in American society. This way the average American might become more conscious of the kind of problems we have in Europe and start understanding the importance of not mixing state and religion.

I am appalled that in a presumably secular country like Belgium public funds should be granted each year to the various religious groups in the country. Over half of the Belgian population is Atheist, Agnostic or non-religious and the constitution.clearly stipulates that religion is separate from the state and that the education system cannot impose religious teaching. Yet most state-funded schools are officially Catholic and have compulsory Catholic propaganda classes for everyone. That's where I find that Belgium is such a hypocritical country, politically.
